What were your eating habits like at 7 weeks?

I'm 7 weeks tomorrow and I literally only want to eat plain food like potatoes, chips, quorn nuggets, toast etc. My DH made me a really nice lunch of teriyaki salmon stir fry today and I couldn't bear it. All the meals we had planned for this week seem to be making me gag at the thought of them, but I cant just eat carbs for 9 months can I?! He even cooked sausages earlier and I had to go upstairs.

We are meant to be having a chicken curry tonight and I'm really having to psych myself up to cook it (although I like the idea of having a greasy one delivered 😳)

I'm trying to force myself to eat fruit and veg but its proving difficult! I've also just managed to get my BMI down into the healthy range by low carbing so I'm loathe to go back to a carb diet as I know the pounds will pile on!

Is this normal and when will it pass?!

It's normal, morning sickness is horrendous, you just eat what you can keep down. I lived exclusively on apples, porridge salt n vinegar crisps and scrambled eggs for weeks on end (hyperemesis). DS was absolutely fine!

I ate a tin of fruit and a few rice crackerd

SunflowerOwl · 15/07/2020 17:38

I dont have any actual sickness yet, more just like aversions when I think of certain (most!) foods

I ate a tin of fruit and a few rice Crackers plus anything I could manage for dinner.

I got antinausea pills after a while which opened up what I could eat. By about 14-16 weeks I could eat mostly what I wanted.

See the first trimester as the trimester to get through eating whatever you can manage there is plenty of time for a better diet later when you feel less awful.

Yes i'm 10 weeks and since about 5 weeks I've only been able to eat beige foods. The thought of vegetables makes me gag but if it's anything unhealthy I can eat it! It's so annoying and i feel guilty. I've heard, and I'm hoping , that it will change in the second trimester and I can make up for it because I'm usually a super healthy eater!

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 15/07/2020 17:44

I lived off sausage rolls, mini cheddars and plain walkers

Peanutbutteryogurt · 15/07/2020 17:46

I could only stomach plain, carby food like chips, crackers, bread. I did not eat healthy and I felt so ill if I tried to force myself to eat healthily

Wantabub · 15/07/2020 17:47

I was exactly the same. 12 weeks tomorrow and I've only had take aways or beige food my DH has cooked.
Last week though I've had some fruit and jacket potatoes (with salad and tuna). Hoping my vitamins are kicking in. No sickness but nausea if I have to cook or DH is cooking.

Yeah it's tough. I had terrible aversions to pretty much all food except for bread and plain crisps with dc1. There does come a point where you have to just eat/keep down what you can! Hopefully you'll feel better in the second trimester and can introduce more protein then.

My eating habits at 7 weeks were very poor. I suffered awful sickness and nausea and just had to eat what I could (which was mostly salted crisps and fizzy sour sweets).... i was like that from about week 7 to week 11 ish then I gradually started introducing a few more bits.
My doctor said not to be too hard on myself and that eating something is better than eating nothing so all....he just advised drinking plenty as the biggest risk is dehydration.

If you feel guilty, you could always consider a pregnancy multi vitamin. Ive been taking them all the way through (still do now at 36 weeks)

I’m so glad to hear all of this as all I really want are beige foods - and I don’t want fruit or veg (aversions and nausea) and I feel terrible! But I figured it’s better I eat what I can - I’m trying to stick with home made (beige) foods rather than processed, like rice and plantain, toast etc.

Purpleartichoke · 15/07/2020 19:21

You really can just eat carbs for 9 months. I had hyperemesis and didn’t stop vomiting until after dd was born.

That said, the days I managed to eat some steak, were the only respite I had. If I could choke that down, I’d generally get several hours feeling pretty decent.

At the start all I wanted was very dry, plain savoury food - I honestly couldn't eat enough brown flatbread! But now (40w) I have a really sweet tooth. I'm no expert, but I think it's normal for your tastes to change as pregnancy develops so don't worry about this being all you will want for the next 9 months. But if it is, then so what - you do you!

Wineandrun · 15/07/2020 20:17

I’m 12 weeks now and literally just starting to eat things that isn’t toast! I was the same in my other pregnancies, couldn’t stand the taste or smell of vegetables (except tomatoes, I am obsessed with the really posh, fresh ones!) eat what you can and don’t worry, you will feel better soon xx
