Swaddle up

I saw the love to swaddle swaddle up recommended and thought that it would be a good idea for when baby is tiny and before they can go into a grobag.
However, I'm a bit confused by sizes- newborn is 5-8lbs and the small is from 8.

Ds was 7lbs 14oz at birth so I expect that number 2 will be similar. Maybe slightly less as I may need an elcs
Do I buy the newborn or the small? I wondered what others had decided on and whether it worked well.
Any alternative recommendations would be lovely too.

Thanks.

I used a grosnug- you can button up the arms so it turns into a swaddle and when you’re ready it can also be a bag. It’s smaller than the grobags so suitable for newborns.

We loved the grosnug

I’ve just purchased the newborn size and it is quite small I don’t think I’ll have a big baby though, I’ve never used them before maybe look at reviews online

I went for small as I figured baby will quickly grow into it even if it doesn't fit immediately

Love to Dream swaddles are great IMO

Thank you @purplejungle and @June628.
I have looked at the grosnug. How did you find it for baby's arm position? The face that they have them up in the love to swaddle was one of the things that I liked as ds naturally slept like that.

Thanks @sel2223 and @Chl00. I did try online reviews but nothing is clear. I suppose that it all depends on this baby's size.
I assume that small size has a larger head opening like the grobag. I wonder how much bigger it is generally and whether it gives the sense of being enclosed if you buy the bigger size.

Hmmmmm. Hmm

Just wondering again. Looking at tog ratings they come in 1 or 2.5. I think that 1 will be cold but 2.5 too hot.
Can you use them and put a cellular blanket over?
Baby is due in November.

I have just gone by the weight and got the small size for my baby due in October. Obviously I wont put him in it until he is 8lbs but I feel the newborn would be a waste of money.

I would go for 2.5 tog for November, on the website it says the temperature and what to dress baby in and theres a few options depending on it. I thought I had read somewhere it wasn't good to put a blanket over it as risk of overheating but dont quote me on that!

sel2223 · 15/07/2020 19:34

I think you're supposed to layer under it if you need extra warmth (with a vest, sleep suit, pj's etc) rather than layer over it with a blanket.

Arm position was good, it kept his arms up if he wanted them there but there was space for him to have his arms across his body too.

2.5 tog is recommended for when room temperature is below 20 degrees which is the best temperature anyway for babies. We have some lower togs at the moment because we can't always get room below 20, but I imagine in the winter we will be using 2.5 tog so I wouldn't worry about 2.5 being too high.
