There is loads of useful info here gbss.org.uk/

I got a test for it each time I was pregnant as it's a routine test in many countries as it can kill the baby but is easily treatable. (I was negative every time thankfully).

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/07/2020 19:12

I tested positive for it during both my pregnancies and labours. Had the drip of antibiotics for the birth with dc1. With dc2 I gave birth too quickly for them to be of any use.

Both births I stayed in hospital for 48hours after for monitoring. Both babies fine.

I'd pay or recommend anyone pay for the test if their local trust doesn't offer it.

Yes. I have Group B Strep. It's a lot more common than I realised. When I started telling friends and family that I was pregnant and GBS came up in the convo, my best friend, my boss and my step sister all told me they also had GBS when pregnant.

Pregnant women aren't routinely screened for GBS in the UK. I only discovered mine by chance when I had to attend A&E at 5 weeks due to potential ectopic pregnancy. If I never went to A&E, I still wouldn't know now that I have GBS. I find that unsettling considering the risk to baby during labour. Thankfully, however, the risk is low and is reduced with IV antibiotics during labour.

I was recently diagnosed with it. I will have antibiotics during labour and baby and I will stay in after birth for monitoring for minimum 12 hours

I had it. I was lucky that it was picked up at one of my screenings by change. All was fine. I wanted to give birth in my local hospital but couldn't as I needed to have a drip of antibiotics. All was absolutely fine and after a day of careful monitoring, I could go home.

It’s thought over half of women have it at any one time, however it’s transient so comes and goes. You can be tested privately and recommended around 36weeks as if positive it is likely you will have it at the time of giving birth. Any earlier than that means it may have gone by the birth.
There is also high colonisation GBS which causes early and mid trimester miscarriage. Women at risk of this are advised to test at around 10weeks and if pos, take oral antibiotics during pregnancy

MrsMyreton · 15/07/2020 06:49

I have it OP. It only showed up later in my second (and current) pregnancy. Plan is to give iv antibiotics for four hours when in labour, then to stay in for 12 hours after to monitor baby. Several of my friends and work colleagues have had it with their kids too. Try not to worry/Google Smile

I have got it. Find out only during the labour when my heart rate spiked to 180 bpm, got high fever and severe shivering (they checked my bloods afterwards to see what caused infection). Thankfully baby was alright and me too after lots of antibiotics! If you have a chance, I would advise to test if you have it as you will be given antibiotics during the labour to minimise risk of any complications!
