Can I take a bath??

Hi ladies, hope everyone is well 😁 there are lots of opinions on taking hot baths in pregnancy, (I'm 4 weeks 3 days).

I know we need to be careful with using lots of fragranced products, but is it safe to have a soak in the bath if it's not too hot? And what temperature is safe if so?

I'm such a waterbaby and I'm craving a nice long soak but so many places online advise not to?

Any advice would be much appreciated xxx

Its fine to bath so long as it's not a really hot bath. Enjoy the baths now as I'm 36 weeks and can't get out of the bath anymore!
I generally went for the same temperature my toddler likes in the bath as he was usually in with me.

Also long it not boiling hot you will be ok
I'm 23 weeks and having a relaxing soak in the bath is sometimes the only way to get rid of aches and pains.

Enjoy 😉

I'm 35+5 and have had regular hot (warm not scalding) baths throughout pregnancy

Newmama29 · 14/07/2020 19:10

I like my baths piping hot & I’ve just been making it slightly cooler as I couldn’t sit in one any less, I’m 34 weeks, been doing this from 5/6 weeks & my baby’s cooking away fine!

SquigglyOne · 14/07/2020 19:15

I had baths all the way through my pregnancy - in the last few weeks it was the only way I could get comfortable!

UrsulaSings · 14/07/2020 19:18

Just be careful not to have it too hot. My mum swears that my sister was head down and then turned breech because she had a boiling hot bath just before she was due. But you're a way off that yet so I'm sure you'll be fine! I just made sure my baths werent too hot.

I'm 17 weeks and have had regular hot(ish) baths from the start :) just made them a bit cooler than normal (ambient for me pre pregnancy was hot enough to sting your bum when you sit down Grin)

AnneTwackie · 14/07/2020 19:23

I’m the same, I looked it up and the risk is if your body temp goes over 39 degrees you have a slightly heightened risk of birth defects before 12 weeks. Fortunately most of us keep a thermometer fairly handy these days!

I have only got a bath. Not had a shower in two and a half years!

While I'm not worried about the safety of baths now, we're desperately trying to find someone who can do us a bathroom refit (including shower) as I'm scared I'm going to get trapped in the bath when the husband is at work when I'm further down the line 😂😂😂

Turns out there's a long waiting list.

Yes have your bath, it can be quite hot just not uncomfortably so, if that makes sense. I've not heard of avoiding fragranced products? Is that a thing? I can't think of any scientific reason not to, unless you're prone to thrush or something?

Anyway, enjoy your bath. Towards the end of my pregnancy, a bath was often the highlight of my day!

reginafalange2020 · 14/07/2020 20:47

Yep! I pretty much lived in the bath for all my pregnancies. They were probably slightly hotter than they should have been too.

SheldonCoop · 14/07/2020 20:59

25 weeks today, I haven't changed my bathroom routine. I still have hot baths. Been to all my checkups and scans everything normal. But the best advice anyone can give you is to speak to your midwife as they can advise you better.

Thank you everyone, its really put my mind at rest, and I'm looking forward to a nice soak in the bath with my kindle 😁

@SmileyClare someone to me said you're more prone to thrush because of increased hormones so don't go mad with bath bombs etc. Not sure of the truth in it, I may live dangerously and have one anyway!!

I'll let you know how it goes 😂😂😂

Forgot to mention, I'll take the meat probe thermometer up with me to test the water temp.

DH will love that!! 😂😂😂💦💧

I used sit in the bath and balance a bowl of popcorn on my bump. It was one of the few things I could keep down.
