Welfare chat

Hi, so I’ve been off work for the last 6 months because to begin with I had severe morning sickness, to the point I was in the hospital a few times, and then because of coronavirus I wasn’t to go to into work because it wasn’t safe for me. I’ve just had an email from my manager saying he needs to call me to conduct a welfare chat and I have no idea what it means or what’s going to happen. Any advice?

I think they just need to check you’re ok. Duty of care and all that.

Also, if you’ve been off for 6 months, is your pay about to drop? 6 months seems like it might be a timescale that triggers changes

I think employers are required to keep in touch with people on long term sick to see how they are, ask if there is anything they can do, offer employee assistance or occupational health appointment etc. It’s nothing to worry about.

I’m not too sure about the pay dropping, cause I’m on ssp right now and I’m getting £371 a month on it 😂 and I know the manager is new to store so I’ve not even met him and everyone at my work has told me he’s a asshole ahaha

I've had welfare phone calls every few weeks while WFH (not sick though). As a pp said, it's part of their duty of care.
At my work, you go to halfway after 6 months on the sick so could be to do with that (although no idea with SSP).
Just keep an open mind.
