At the beginning of lockdown I dyed my hair purple (brilliant idea!)... two months later I fell pregnant and now the roots are horrendous and I want to get rid! Is there a safe way to remove hair dye at home or do I need to go to a hairdressers? Will they refuse as I’m 9 weeks?

Why can't you just get your hair redyed at the hairdressers they are back open now? I've never avoided getting my hair done pregnant, why would they refuse you?

No reason why you can't, just do a patch test of whatever is going to be used on your hair/scalp first to make sure you don't have any reactions to anything.

@IsItGinOclock1 FTM here and have read some hairdressers turning pregnant women away for hair dye so wasn’t sure if it was the same to remove the hair dye. Also haven’t ever dyed my hair before so unsure of process

@Shmithecat2 ok thank you

My hairdresser said it's fine to dye your hair but you may be sensitive to the smell

I'm not sure about hair dye remover/stripper kits I think they're alot alot stronger than a dye (if that's what you mean about removing it?). So I'd just go to your hairdresser and get an all over colour or just get your roots done!

I've been to the hair dressers plenty and I haven't been refused being pregnant

I’m 15 weeks and got my hair dyed yesterday 😊 no issues!

Various people and hairdressers say it’s fine but the truth is you just don’t really know. Yes I doubt it would cause significant harm to your baby but can one absolutely rule out that the chemicals that your hair/scalp absorb won’t also reach the baby in some capacity? Nope!

If you look on most websites they say to try and avoid hair dye at least until after your first trimester.

Look at the ingredients of whatever you’re using and try and opt for the most natural hair dye/ hair stripper, maybe try aveda? Or check out the hair dye section at Holland and Barrett?

Hope that helps good luck x

You can use henna powder with hibiscus water to make a paste which will turn it purple. Completely natural and safe.
