Moving while pregnant

My partner and I moved away from family before I was pregnant. We got our little surprise and are now looking at moving back. I'm due at the end of September.

First we were thinking of moving back in November because that would just continue my healthcare where we are but my partner has now been offered a job where we want to move to.

Are we crazy for thinking of moving sooner and before the baby is born when I'm only 2 or so months away from giving birth? Does anyone have any experience with this and how the process would be with changing hospitals and midwives?

Family are a decent drive from us so would need to change hospitals and the likes.

We moved when I was 36 weeks, but only to the next street over. Are you likely to buy or rent? If rent, yes, no problem. If buying, there's a lot of stress and potential for delays.. just factor that in.

My care has never been consistently with one midwife/ specialist so I wouldn't be too concerned about changing hospitals, especially if you don't have any issues.

Ultimately, I would much rather move before having a baby than after! Just make sure someone else does all the work Grin

Move now. Being pregnant and being stressed was very different to how I felt with a newborn or even a baby up to about 6 months - my head was spinning! (I say this as we were looking half heartedly when in third trimester and found a house at about 3 months PP, we didn't actually move until he was nearly 9 months!)

I’m currently in the process of buying a house. We sold out flat the weekend we found out I was pregnant and had agreed to go into rented accommodation with the buyers. We decided to proceed with the sale as it had taken us 2 years to sell and didn’t want to lose the sale. The buyers then wanted a quick completion which resulted in us moving the first week of lockdown with 24 hours notice as the sale was threatened by Covid delay (even had to find a removal man willing to move us in lockdown and with such short notice) I was 14 weeks pregnant at that point. We have been in temporary accommodation ever since and we are looking to complete our sale at the beginning on August (if things go well) I will be 34 weeks by then.

I have to admit, the dread of having to pack and move again in such a short space of time is filling me with fear but I’m desperate to be in our new home before the baby arrives so that we can take her to our forever family home where she will grow up. People think I’m mad but I wouldn’t actually rather do it now than when she is really little as I think packing up and moving with a small baby will be even worse. We are lucky to have lots of family offering to help and I plan on delegating most of the jobs in the move from the safety of my comfy chair!

The move is requiring me to move hospitals, doctors, midwives etc. I mentioned it at my last appointment and the midwife seemed unphased. She said I should self refer to the new hospital online again and then follow it up with a phone call so they know how far gone I actually am and move my referral form to the top of the list. She also said they would probably want to redo some of the tests and scan me again for their own records but other than that she said it should be a fairly smooth transition. I’m hoping so at least because not having maternity care sorted with 6 weeks to go will be stressful!

Good luck and do what is right for you, your partner and your new baby and I hope you enjoy your new home, whenever you may get there!

We moved when I was about 28 weeks. All fine, and no problems transferring care.

I moved at 34 weeks pregnant and when my son was 10 months. Being pregnant was much less stressful.

Firstly we booked men so I didn't have to to do any lifting.

For midwife care I

To continue - for midwife care I called the admin team directly at my new location for advice. I couldn't register till I had a gp, I couldn't get a gp until the day we moved as I needed my proof of address. So on moving day I was off to the gp, online referred and called the admin team again who issued a booking in appointment for the following week.

So it can be done but be on top of your admin!
