As first time mum-to-be Im totally confused about what pushchair to buy. Do I need a pram/carry cot or sling is the best for the first few months? I live in London but also like to go to countryside. Anyone has any experience with the new Britax Vigour3 or any other 3 wheelers/travel systems? Please help.

You say you live in London but like going to the countryside so I would recommend a 3 wheeler definatly. With a 4 wheeler you cant even get through gravel let along grass!!

We have a dog so constantly are in fields etc, our pushchair is from mothercare are is the "urban" its there own make. £300 and includes car seat which just clips on and off for ease of use for the first few months, raincover and a cosytoe for the cold days!

Its great for fields but also great for taking round the shops as the steering is really tight on corners!

We also got a sling which works great until they get to heavy!!

Hope this helps.

Hiya, we have and really like the Icoo Infinity. It's basically a frame with three options for the seat: a carry cot for newborn, a nice seat that can tilt for babies 6 months + and a car seat. and it has big wheels at the back and lockable front wheels that allow you to go offroad very easily. Has excellent suspention.

But what we like the most is that you can choose to position the seat to either face you or face out. Great option I think.

Hi! I think the mountain buggy urban is just the best 3 wheeler and buggy. It is really well designed, you can push it with one hand, it has optional carrycot and maxi cosy car seat clips on. Front wheel is lockable for rough terrain or swivels for town. Great big shopping basket. Really comfy looking and fits up to 4 years old. Also, when ur finished with it they sell second hand on e bay for a good proportion of cost price. I highly recommend it!

Good luck

When I went pram shopping I had a set thing in my head and then took the advice of the ladies in the shop who see different prams and which ones come back for repairs all the time. i got told not to use mammas and pappas prams because they always break. bebecar have wheels at the front which turn to give the pram more flexibility- ideal for your situation. They are bouncy prams so they're good for getting baby off to sleep, and move well, and they're very attractive. They are the best I have come across and we have ordered a black one though they come in different colours.

Emma ljunger is supposed to do very good quality prams too.

Good luck!!

We bought a Britax pram with the carrycot bit. We didn't bother with the push chair bit as we knew we would go on to an umbrella fold buggy at 5-6 months. HTH.

Zuzkah We are similar, go country and town. We bought a Jane Slalom ( second hand ) as it is a complete travel system , car seat converts down into carrycot, so no need for extra's , and baby lies flat ! and it is an award winning system for car seat saftey. £ 600 new, but £ 215 on ebay !!! and only used twice !!!
But mothercare were so helpful, we went in and they made us push all the diff models round the store and then showed us how they fixed together, then fitted the car seats in the car, to check on the fit. ( but we said we'ed go home and think, and bought the one we wanted , but we could't afford new)

We're going for the new cosatto one - and I've gone blank as to the name of it, it's the same as the i'coo infinity though and i was very impressed with how light and easy to deal with it was. we had a Bebecar pram for DS1 and it went on and on - DD slept in it downstairs as it's 3rd owner and it finally went to the dump still functioning perfectly just a bit faded and scratched after 7 years! Someone took it home 2 hrs later - so for all i know it's reached it's 8th birthday.

Thanks so much for all your advice. I have seen the Britax Vigour and decided the seat in the pusher is not very good as it doesn't have backrest recline and is very stiff. I have been to Two left feet showroom who has over 100 models of different pushchairs and very helpful staff. We finally decided to go for a Mutsy 4 rider. It has rear or front facing seat, reclinable backrest which can lie nearly flat and feel very sturdy and sporty. It comes with a Maxi cosy car seat which was rated very highly regarding safety. Now we are expecting the delivery and only hope we have made the right choice! Anyone tried this one yet?

Not the buggy though I do really love them (out of our price range I'm afraid) but I had a Maxi cosi car seat for DS2 and DD and they are great - easy to put them on the adaptors , sunshade brill, raincover very good and lighter than most, plus as you say, they rate pretty much the best for safety.

good choice zuzkah, i have to say though, if you can stretch to it, get the carrycot to go with it, as IMO (as a bit of a pramaholic) the seat isnt really suitable for a newborn. that is just my OWN opinion, and not trying to sell you kit that you dont need. i dont own a shop or anything, just like prams.

and next time dont go to two left feet, as they arent very good.

zuzkah · 30/09/2007 14:07

I went to Two left feet because they have a large selection of different types of pushchairs as I didnt find Mamas and Papas, John Lewis or Mothercare very well stocked.
I like prams too and think they are the best for newborns, although the prices of pushchairs with all the accessories are just a bit too much and you use the carrycot only for a short period. At the moment it wouldn't even fit all in our small flat!
So I will go for a sling too. Think either Wilkinet or Tricotti or something in that style. Anyone has an idea WHY they are so expensive?
Lisa, thanks for the reassurance about the car seat. Very easy to strap in even without the base.

I have a Jane slalom pro with matrix car seat which reclines to flat for use on the chassis - like a carrycot - thought it was great but a little heavy and as a car seat "which" did not rate it too highly.
The buggy is fab for dog walking on rough terrain.
As for slings - I used the baby bjorn active sling with lumber support - which I loved and got a good deal of use from. Great when shopping or just doing stuff round the house - I used to be able to zip up my Berhaus jacket over DD and keep her dry and cosy!

jamila169 · 30/09/2007 22:16

Can't comment on the tricotti zuzkah , but i've got a wilkinet and I've carried an 18month old on my back in that, even though I've got fibromyalgia so have probs with my shoulders - LO's weight is taken on your hips rather than dragging you down like a babybjorn. I've used a ring sling with DD but she hated it once she was sitting up, so might try a hybrid type (looks like a wrap but has clips at the back)for newbie ,or a mei tei - Slaps self round face before going on a slingbuying rampage lol!

DO NOT BUY from two left feet
do a search on here dreadful dreadful dreadful

Corrie slinds are cheap cheerful and bloody brilliant.

RGPargy · 30/09/2007 23:54

I've just bought a Britax Ultra Travel System that comes with a car seat. It's only £149 in Toys R Us at the moment and comes with a free raincover too. I didn't opt for the Britax with the carry cot because i thought the carry cot looked absolutely tiny and wouldn't last five minutes. Not worth the extra £50 for that particular TS. The pushchair seat on the one we bought goes to more or less flat anyway so there really is no need for the carry cot. I went for Britax because of their reputation as a car seat manufacturer and trust them for that reason.

On the looks front, i absolutely LOVE the Mutsy 4Rider, but as it was £279 just for the pushchair and then a further £99 for the car seat, it's a bit out of our price range.

Piffle. I ordered a quinney buzz package from 2 left feet before i`d read all the bad reviews about it. However, i recieved it in the time they said and it was a pleasant transaction. So hopefully they may have pulled their socks up.

zuzkah · 01/10/2007 10:47

I think I will definitelly go for the Wilkinet sling then. I have heard only good comments on this one. Thanks Lisa
Piffle, I like the Corrie sling too as you can use it as a blanket (is it true?)and its not that expensive.
Anyway, hearing the bad comments on Two left feet worries me a bit now. I went to the showroom and have to say we received the best service from a very pleasant girl who knew what she was talking about. Just hope the delivery will be no problem too.
I really like the Jane pro slalom pusher. It comes in lovely colours!
