Hello,

Anyone else on blood thinning injections? I have these bruises and just want to know they're normal, I'm scared I'm doing it in the wrong place and I'm gonna die haha, cropped the picture a little bit because I'm chubby but is this looking okay?

As they’re thinning the blood be careful not to rub the area, as is sometimes done after an injection. The blood needs to clot, rather than thinning and spreading in the site.

I've been injecting Clexane as I had an ivf cycle, and my bruises were quite spectacular after a fortnight. They look fine to me, but as the PP said, try not to rub or scratch them.

Nurse here
Completely normal with clexane injections. Just make sure to alternate where you are injecting: either side of stomach, flabby part at the top of the arm (might be awkward for you to do this one yourself) or you can do your thighs too.

All completely fine though, nothing to worry about

Yes perfectly normal.

Yes mine were horrible and didn't go away for awhile. Massive green and purple and some of them felt lumpy weeks later. Still, they went away, I had a healthy baby and I had forgotten about it until just now!

Very normal. I feel black and blue and green, and some have tiny lumps under the skin. Pinch the skin, go in at a 90 degree angle and pull it out slowly, it what they told me to reduce bruising. I have mine done into my stomach, alternating sides. I don’t want to my arms, because of the bruising, and there’s not much to punch on my legs.

Lkb2020 · 12/07/2020 22:32

They look exactly like that mine, I’ve had some huge bruises too with big lumps under the skin but doctors have told me completely normal side effect from them!

Rubyandsaphire · 12/07/2020 22:55

This is normal.
As an ex nurse the advice I'd give would be alternate areas, put the needle in as quick as possible but then slowly inject and never rub the area afterwards.

Normal!

Totally normal! I found a good video on Youtube that recommended using an ice pack on the area beforehand, then injecting as slowly as you can (both inserting the needle and pressing the plunger), and then applying an ice pack immediately afterwards. This significantly reduced bruising, most were the size of raisins/grapes rather than massive golf-ball sized blotches. Even managed a few magical shots without any bruising at all.
