Hi all,

My partner is 32, we have a 2-year-old son. About 5 years ago she was told by a doctor that she wouldn't be able to get pregnant because of her ovaries so it was a bit of a shock to find out that she was pregnant 3 years ago.

She did 3 pregnancy tests back then all showed positive readings.

Fast forward to now she hasn't had a period for 3 months and all test show negative. She isn't on contraception!

She has spoken to a doctor over the phone and asked for a blood test to see what is going on. The doctor told her that she will have to wait for another 3 months before any tests can be carried out but in the meantime to go on a 10 days contraception pill which will then apparently give her a period after that.

She doesn't want to go on that pill and would rather wait until late September/October for a blood test which i agree.

What are the chances of her being pregnant even though 4 tests show negative?

My worry is that if she did that the 10-day pill which the doctor advised her to take and she is pregnant then what damage will that cause if she is pregnant?

If she has PCOS it’s probably not likely that she is pregnant given the negative tests. A lot of women with PCOS can even go years without a period. However I think you are both making the right decision I’m not taking the pill to bring on a period and waiting for the blood test to be done to confirm if there’s anything more. Also they shouldn’t be giving you a contraceptive pill to bring on a bleed anyway, rather something like norithesterone.

I agree with pp. I have PCOS and have gone a full year without period. My average is one every 3 months.
But I am also expecting dc4 which the doctors thought unlikely!
