Sudden drinks panic!

Possibly a stupid question but I have genuinely panicked a bit!

Drank some non-alcoholic gin at a picnic today and realised it’s made from juniper, which apparently causes miscarriage. Does anyone know if it’s ok to drink botanical extracts like this or is it time to freak out?!

It's fine. Stop worrying! Limit alcohol and caffeine and avoid unpasteurised milks and juices. The rest is fair game.

Was it Seedlip? That does not actually have any juniper in it.

BertieBotts · 11/07/2020 21:52

If not, don't worry, It's unlikely to have done any harm, but I would avoid it in future. There are definitely some herbs/extracts you're supposed to avoid.

Sadly not Seedlip - this one definitely had juniper in it. Feel really stupid for drinking it, but just didn’t think about it until afterwards.

I've drunk the Dalstons one (which has definitely met juniper) a fair bit as I enjoy it, I'm still pregnant. You'd need more than a light extract to cause a miscarriage.

BertieBotts · 12/07/2020 16:40

It's not something I would have even thought of!

If you are taking a regular high dose of juniper like in capsule form then there may be a slight risk but absolutely nothing to worry about in that. The company must know pregnant people drink it so there would have to be a warning on it if there was anything serious.
