Hypermobile Mamas Help!

I’m a first timer, 14 weeks pregnant.

I’ve got joint hypermobility syndrome and suspected palindromic rheumatism (form of arthritis) and I’m experiencing some weird and wonderful symptoms and I’m not sure whether they’re pregnancy related, hypermobility related or something entirely new?

So:

Early on (10 weeks) I had numbness and tingling in both hands, little, ring and middle fingers and up my arm. Index and thumb unaffected. I did discuss this with my GP, and was told this is normal; if a little weird as usually carpal tunnel is the index and thumb and known in pregnancy.
Now for the last day or so my right side hip has been aching from my lower back down into my hip joint and my leg has been going “fuzzy”- not quite dead but not fully functioning either.

I’ve read about pelvic girdle pain and SPD so aware this is can happen and possibly to be expected, but with the hypermobility on top has anyone got any advice or tips for how to manage this?

I have hypermobility but from your description I think not as severe as you? I am 21 weeks and have, however been getting a regular 'dead hip' which sounds a bit like what you're describing... usually when I stand up after sitting for any length of time and walks off in a few minutes. I'm just focusing on trying to stay active and still doing a strength training routine 2-3 times a week to keep my muscle strength up - this is my normal strategy for managing hypermobility anyway :-)
If it's causing you problems you can ask your midwife for a physio referral - specialist physios do exist for this! :-)

Hi, @EithneBlue ! Thank you for the reply! I usually use strength conditioning too to try and keep on top of it but I’ll admit I’ve been a little lax at the moment! Thinking of trying pregnancy yoga/Pilates or similar? I’ll definitely ask about the physio referral though- I thought I’d have to see a consultant for that! Congratulations on your pregnancy too Flowers

I think whatever exercise normally works for you is good - I can't do yoga at all because I just constantly overextended my joints (I also just don't enjoy it) - I am doing circuits I found online for pregnancy (and I did check with the midwife that light weight training was fine for me). I did do basically nothing except walking for the whole first trimester though because I just felt too crappy!
Check with your midwife but here you can access physio directly if you need it :-)
