Croydon University or East Surrey?

Writing this message incase anyone local to me sees it! I am 5 weeks pregnant and my local hospital is Croydon University, but we might be moving closer to East Surrey soon. Does anyone have any recommendations over which one?? and if I start at Croydon, then move to East Surrey would that be a nightmare, or is it best to stick with one hospital?
Thanks

Hi - I'm at East Surrey. I don't know Croydon at all though so can't compare!

The maternity unit at East Surrey seems very good - I am high risk and consultant led - but I have no issues with them so far. I was at a Royal Surrey for my previous pregnancy which was great and I was a little apprehensive with ESH.

It is a strange time though - with the coronavirus- a lot of my appointments have been over the telephone. I'm 31 weeks now so appointments will be face to face going forward.

I’ve given birth at both. My first was at Croydon as that’s closer. The midwife care was ok, although they didn’t pick up on something that affected the birth even though I voiced my concerns. It was picked up on during labour however and the care during labour and eventual emcs was faultless. The aftercare was awful though and I was quite abandoned, and they discharged me before they should have because they needed the bed. In hindsight I should have complained about several aspects of my care. I had my second at East Surrey and it was fantastic. The facilities are a lot newer and nicer and the care from start to finish was excellent. I didn’t once feel abandoned, there was constant help when I needed it. They also let me go home when I was ready.
I was under the out of area team for east surrey so you could do that. They were happy to take me even though I wasn’t particularly local.

That's great, thank you for your help. I think I might go ahead with a East Surrey as even if we don't move more there, i'd rather just have my care at one place.

My friend had a terrible time at Croydon. She and the baby almost died and the hospital has admitted they were negligent. Definitely go with East Surrey.

I’m with east Surrey, I’m in the second trimester, so can’t comment too much on the labour suites etc. However I had a MMC in December and was really impressed with the care I received (on the whole).
It felt familiar to me so despite being bang in the middle of two hospitals now, we chose ESH again!

I'm with East Surrey, I actually live right in the middle of both. The drive to east surrey is easier if I have to go during busy times, plus I've also been so impressed with the care received. I've been in a fair few times with reduced movements and they've been brilliant.

I'd definitely go with East Surrey. They were fantastic when I had my son. I had to go to the Croydon Hospital when it looked like I was in premature labour and East Surrey has closed their labour ward as were at capacity. Whilst the staff were nice enough, it just didn't compare.

I live between the two and Ive chosen East Surrey (due early December) even though its slightly further away (but probably about the same when accounting for traffic). I recently discovered that a neighbour gave birth twice at Croydon and had a good experience. For me it was a bit of a random pick as ive only been in the area for a few years and never had to visit either hospital. I believe they both have birth centres so you have the option of midwife led (with the back up of being in a hospital if you want/need to switch last minute). Sorry, I guess that isnt much help!
