ELCS - how long were you in hospital for?

Just packing my hospital bag and wondering how much of everything to take.

How long were you kept in for afterwards? I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who's had their ELCS during the current pandemic x

Just over 24hrs (not during pandemic) a friend who gave birth by Elcs 1 week ago was home pretty much 24 hrs later x

Thanks @Monsterjam
24 hours is ideal. Everything i've read on Google seems to say 3-4 days which sounds awful (especially without visitors)

I had complications with mine but I know they like to get you up and out.

1st one was two days as I’d lost a lot of blood and was very weak.

2nd one was three days because they put blocker on a nerve and was paralysed for 48 hours.

icedaisy · 09/07/2020 18:11

5 days but I was up showered and walking within a few hours.

Baby wasn't feeding well and had jaundice so was incubated.

So was baby related not me related.

When I was in last time they were making women get up after 12 hours. Some where just not ready.

Pandapotato · 09/07/2020 18:12

Just over 24 hours (not pandemic.)
Pack some wind-ease - I was ok after my emcs, but had the worst wind pain ever after my elective last year. We live rurally and it was a long night until the chemist opened in the morning 💨

Good luck x

A day and a half, had to wait a few hours for my discharge prescription.

I was able to walk carefully and get into my own jammies about 5 hours after dd2 was born. It was great. Much more straightforward and comfortable than my vaginal birth (and 3rd degree tear) with dd1.

ForeverBubblegum · 09/07/2020 18:18

Just under 24 hours withsecond (ELCS, not during pandemic), but longer with my first (EMCS) because we were struggling with feeding.

I'd hope for 1 day, but pack enough for 3, just in case. Especially since without visitors it could be harder to get stuff brought in.

ShirleyPhallus · 09/07/2020 18:18

I had an EMCS but was discharged 24 hours later. The good thing was that first night with the baby was actually a lovely bonding experience and DH got a proper nights sleep

Good luck!!

userabcname · 09/07/2020 18:19

24 hours pre-pandemic. I'm on a c section support group on facebook and it appears if everything has gone well they are discharging people asap currently. In all likelihood you'll be in one night I reckon if no complications. Good luck.

Ready4abreak · 09/07/2020 18:19

I had mine the week after lockdown started.

Was out the next day.

However, don't worry if you are kept in. The post natal ward was much nicer this time with no visitors than it was for my first!

Hercwasonaroll · 09/07/2020 18:20

24hours pre corona.

First one 8 days but was EMCS and baby had problems.

IndieRo · 09/07/2020 18:20

One full day, not during the pandemic and I had Elcs.

GrumpySausage · 09/07/2020 18:21

3 days but that was because of baby having an infection. They said I would have been home in 24 hours if it wasn't for that.

kirinm · 09/07/2020 18:21

Closer to 36 hours but only because they were busy and took ages to discharge me.

Tamtam86 · 09/07/2020 18:22

Just over 24 hours, this was pre pandemic and emergency not elective but I was pleased to be out that quickly

NickMarlow · 09/07/2020 18:33

Dd1 was 3 nights - noone told me I needed to be regularly up and about before they would let me out so I stayed resting in bed, which seemed logical after major surgery and no sleep....!

Dd2 was born 8am and I asked to have the catheter out so I could have a shower that evening, moved around much more, and went home the next evening.

magicmarker11 · 09/07/2020 18:35

I had ds at 11am on the Monday, I left the hospital about 8pm on the Tuesday

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the replies.

I like the advice 'hope for 1 night but plan for 3'
