Hello everyone !

Found out I am pregnant- yay! Still very early stages, only 4 weeks. But I had surgery just over a year ago to have my thyroid removed and now taking thyroxine every day 125mg. Is there anything extra I should be doing, anything i should be careful about? All a bit unknown and just looking for some help/reassurance pleaseSmile

I've not had personal experience but have a few friends. Your dose may need increasing now you're pregnant so I'd speak to your doctor ASAP.

Congratulations! I take levothyroxine for a thyroid disease and was advised by consultants and my GP that my dose needed to I crease by 25mg as soon as I got a positive test and then have blood tests every 6 weeks during pregnancy to keep an eye on my levels. The first 12 weeks are the most important as the baby can't make their own and takes from your thyroid so I'd speak to your GP as soon as possible.

Thank you for that. Will get in touch with doctor now.

I've spoken to the doctor and got a blood test next Thursday. She didnt say anything about increasing my dose should I still do this by 25mg or will this distort my blood test results? Maybe I shouldn't be worrying but it's a week away and just want to make sure I'm doing what's best for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

Do you know what your last blood tests? Ideally pre pregnancy and in the first trimester your TSH did be as close to 1 as possible and your T4 as close to 22. If you're not at that level, ask your GP to adjust you meds or speak with an endocrinologist who will. If they aren't willing (some aren't up to date on the latest guidance) direct them to the British Thyroid Association pregnancy advice website. www.btf-thyroid.org/pregnancy-and-thyroid-disorders-guidance-for-patients.

I was on 125mg daily then went up to 150mg as soon as I got my BFP. I've had my bloods monitored every 6 weeks and so far they've started pretty stable thankfully and I'm 18 weeks now.
