Loss of twin in early pregnancy

I'm currently 12wks pregnant, we had a private scan at 7wks and was told we were having twins. But today at our 12wk scan we had lost one. Does anyone have experience of this? Worrying about the remaining baby now

I’m so sorry, this Happened to my mum 22 years ago with my little sister.
Very common and not a worry. After 12 weeks the chance of loss is very low.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reassurance x

Sorry you've gone through this 😔 My mum lost my twin at around 11 weeks. Obviously I'm here and fine, no other pregnancy issues. Apparently it's quite common 😕

We found out at our 12 week scan that we had lost one twin. It was quite a shock as we had no idea there was more than one in the first place!

It’s apparently quite common - depending upon timing of first scan and loss, many losses may even go undetected.

We were reassured that the loss had no negative impact upon the viability of the remaining fetus. They were right - my pregnancy, apart from the early twin loss, was fine and I gave birth to a very healthy baby.

I’m sorry this happened to you, but please do be reassured there is probably no need to worry. Perhaps you could arrange a telephone consultation with your midwife, just to put your mind at rest.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind messages. I didn't really ask too many questions at the scan as I think I was abit sad and didn't really take it in and since coming home I've obviously had more time to think

Yes I lost one twin when I had my son last year (early loss like yours). What made it worse was they couldn’t find any trace of the baby afterwards - the embryo had just vanished. It has taken me a while to accept - I have fertility issues and had viewed the twins as ‘completing’ my family—and couldn’t enjoy my pregnancy at all as I was convinced I would lose my DS.

Things did change when he was born though. It seems ridiculous but all the late nights / feeding him etc seemed to draw me back into the moment. I took talking therapy sessions too.

I lost a twin at 12 +2 weeks , we were just amazed that the other one hung in there as it was a massive bleed . The entire pregnancy was a problem really - HG , miscarriage , then they were querying that the remaining twin might have spinal bifida ( he didn’t) and then a traumatic delivery to a 10lb + baby who ended up in SCBU overnight . I then had a PPH , fainted in the toilet and knocked myself out on the sink . However he’s now 27 and was definitely worth the trouble .

This happened to me, found out at 8 week scan. I'm now 35 weeks with our surviving twin and all is going great so far
