am 28 wks - baby is usually ridiculously active but have been up in night with back ache and period pains and not felt baby move yet... how long do I wait for my 10 movements (which I've usually had by now)

snowed under at work - I know thats not an excuse but trying to keep level head and not panic

What would normally get baby moving? I used to drink ice cold water or gently press on top of bump to get DD moving.

DaisyMOO · 27/09/2007 08:14

Have a cold drink and see if it wakes her up. You may not be able to feel him/her because of position, or he/she might be asleep. It's really common at this stage, don't panic. I'd probably give it an hour or two and then phone the midwife if you're still worried.

fryalot · 27/09/2007 08:15

When mine were in "quiet" mode, the only thing that got them moving was for me to stop and lie down.

Baby has probably turned round and is kicking 'inside' or is just sleeping. Don't worry yet. If you've still had no movement by the time you finish work, ring mw and ask if they can pop out and just check you out.

Sure there's nothing to worry about.

I would ring your midwife now, to be honest - they always tell me to get in touch if you're worried as they'd much rather reassure you sooner than later, and this was true of my friend who did call. I do notice that I don't notice the baby move as much when I'm busy and stressed, but just give them a call. Drinking very very cold water and lying on your left side can help, but seriously - they won't mind if you ring them.

can't get hold of midwife, tried two numbers and doctors surgery is engaged... drinking ice cold water now to wake him/her up, got no where to lie down except toilet floor but it might come to that if it doesn't wake up soon!

thanks for your messages x

Im about the same stage as you and got worried the other day as I had felt no movement for a while. In the end she didnt wake up until i went to bed that night.

insywinsyspider · 27/09/2007 08:55

thanks pecka - this is just so unusual as baby is so active, I'm usually moaning for it to give me a break especially as I spend all day sitting at a desk, its prob because I was up in the night loads - to be honest I'd be asleep if I could!
just trying not to panic!

Im in exactly the same boat as you. Been up an hour and nothing. I'm actually due today so am at the stage where a good prod normally works but not today! Perhaps its in hiding not wanting to come out. Will call my midwife at 10 if nothing.
Hope you feel something soon. Ice cream is good if you can face it this early.

insywinsyspider · 27/09/2007 09:35

would love ice cream but am at work so chances of finding some are pretty slim hope mw can reassure you if still haven't felt anything by 10 - I'm now comtempating a strong coffee...

insywinsyspider · 27/09/2007 10:14

glad the wee rascal has woken up!
you worry so much when you are pregnant, i know i did anyway

Jobi1 · 27/09/2007 16:13

I worry about this all the time. Weekend mornings are great, normally LO has a good old wriggle when we are in bed. A few weeks ago nothing, and nothing when I got up and had breakfast. I ended up crying my eyes out and we went to hospital. As soon as the monitors were on it wriggled like mad I still worry constantly though. And the midwives drum it into us so its understandable we get scared. I find at work some days it hardly seems to move at all and I get so frightened. Usual trick is to go home and lie on left side and see if that helps. This morning it was quiet but then it kicked me all afternoon! I don't know - I thought they had a routine in the womb? This doesn't bode that well for routine post birth does it!

insywinsyspider · 27/09/2007 20:11

good to hear I'm not the only one that worries - its just so hard to know how long to leave it before contacting the hosp/mw, if I called everytime she'd have me down as neurotic!
this is dc2 I thought I'd be more relaxed this time but actually I think I sailed throu the first pg in ignorant bliss, now I feel like I know too much

i do post this a lot but you should get yourself ababy monitor that you strap around your stomache...they are 30 quid from argos, and when i used tostrap it on my lil bundle would wriggle like mad as i got bigger,it picks up babys heartbeat and it saced me and the ante natal clinic lots of time
