is the next to me crib safe for a newborn? as in the baby being able to roll over and not be able to breathe or something. might sounds stupid but i'm very paranoid.

Watching with interest as FTM and I am already so confused about what a new born baby can or cannot sleep in!! Feel like I need to but like four different cots for every possible occasion atm!

Hi Julia the next to me crib is safe, just like any other cot, as long as you follow all safe sleep guidelines. I.e put back on thier back to sleep, feet at the foot of the crib, no extra teddies/cushions in the crib, do not smoke around the baby etc. With the next to me yoy have to ensure that the matress is properly fitting and that you always zip up the sides after tending to the baby.
I've used mine sadly for both my sons with no issues

Baby might roll themselves when they learn to, so if they do just pop them back to thier back, which may wake them annoyingly!

I never used a sleepyhead etc as I felt these were not safe and a smothering hazard but I know lots of people sing thier praises

Yes they are safe and used from newborn to around 6 months or whenever your baby can pull itself up or sit. I have one ready for my baby due this month and then when she's ready, she will go into a larger crib in her own room.

Is there new info to suggest that a bany shouldn't sleep in a next to me?

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 02/07/2020 22:41

Take a look at the Lullaby Trust website, it tells you all about the requirements for safe sleeping

julia2001 · 03/07/2020 07:27

yes i understand how to put a baby to sleep safely. for example i'm just worried about her rolling and me not noticing. is a wooden crib better?

Newborns can't roll. By the time they're old enough to roll themselves over they're old enough to be left there safely like that. Just always put them down on their backs.

Why do you think a wooden crib would prevent rolling compared to a next to me etc?

i'm not saying it would prevent rolling. it's just that it has gaps in between the wood so i would of thought it's safer than a piece of material. i'm probably just very paranoid 😂

Newborns can’t roll (or at least it’s rare) next to me cribs are totally safe.

Once they can roll independently it’s fine to let them roll and sleep on their fronts but that won’t usually be until 4+ months
