Could this be labour?? I'm so scared!!!!

On monday I had a bit of a 'show' with a mucus type substace. No pain or other discharge so I didn't worry about it.

Today I've had really bad period like pains in my lower tummy and bad lower back ache. The period like pains come and go with no real pattern to them and last about a minute or so. I cant seem to get confortable at all.

LO is moving and kicking well.

I'm only 33+2 today and so worried. I called my MW who said to take two paracetomol (SP?) and call back in an hour or so to let them know if the pains have changed or are still there.

The pains are still there, although the paracetomols seem to have taken the edge of them a little bit.
I called her back and she said to go home and have a bath, and to ring them if the pains get worse or develop in to a pattern or if I have any other worries.

What do you think, does it sound like the begining of labour or not??

goodgolly are they still random
Obviously could be early labour but could also be braxton hicks?
I think call her back if you're at all worried.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 26/09/2007 16:10

Littleboo, yep they are random, there isn't any kind of pattern to them. They dont feel like Braxton hicks, unless they get painfull later on in pregnancy!!

I'm so scared

goodgolly just give the MW another ring, better to be on the safe side. With my dd1 (long time ago now) I went into early labour ended up in hsp was monitorred then as quick as they started they stopped ( was if I remember about the time you are)
Don't worry just call the MW

meemar · 26/09/2007 16:15

MissMolly

It could be, or it could just settle down again on it's own.

I just want to really reassure you that if it is labour, try not to be too scared. 33 weeks gestation is not necessarily very bad news - the baby will be small but stands an excellent chance of being fine.

My DS1 was born at 34+6, and only spent 4 days in SCBU.

I hope the pains settle down for you and the baby holds on for a few more weeks.

Good luck xx

Meeely2 · 26/09/2007 16:15

goodgolly, if it carries on much longer, call MW again and ask her to come check you over.

I am not scaremongering, but i went into labour at 29 weeks, had lower belly and back pain (and in tops of my legs thinking about it) all day while i was at work. I had a bath when i got home, had a big poo (tmi!) and rang my mum, she just calmly asked me to ring emerg midwife just to put my mind at rest....i went into hosp and gave birth the next day!

33 is early, but not VERY early, so even if it turns out not to be labour, just get checked over cos if it is labour they can sometimes stop it with drugs. Better safe than sorry - cos when i finally went into proper labour it only took 40 mins, no way i would have got to hosp in time, so was agood job i was already there.

LizaRose · 26/09/2007 16:16

Don't be scared! Aches and pains in late pregnancy are common, but even if your little one comes now the chances are everything will be fine! If you're really worried you can go to the hospital and get them to check you out, you won't be the first one to go in with a false alarm.

Pheebe · 26/09/2007 16:18

GoodGolly, don't worry too much yet.

BH's can be very painful for some women, mine are this time around. After all they are exactly the same as contractions! Its the pattern you need to watch for. If they start coming at regular intervals (every 10 or 15 mins or so) and easing off to nothing in between then you need to be checked at the hospital.

Mine are usually, but not always, triggered by doing too much walking or bending over, erm sex or jsut LO moving about. I've been coping by practising my breathing patterns ready for real labour, putting a warm (not hot) water bottle on my back, and doing lots of hip swinging and trying out different positions, o and getting DH to give me lots of backrubs . All great practice for real labour.

If you're really worried just go straight to the hospital, they'll monitor you and see jsut how strong the contractions are and how regular. That should set your mind at rest.

lulumama · 26/09/2007 16:19

agree that you should keep in touch with midwife, regularly.. and be checked out if neccesary

if they are regular, getting more intense, closer together, getting any pressure, then go in..

GoodGollyMissMolly · 26/09/2007 16:21

So many replies, thank you all I appreciate it. So nice to know that even if it is labour it's not all bad news.

I'm going home soon and going to take a nice warm bath and hope that calms the pain down. I've emailed DH at work to let him know, but I just felt that I need someone to talk to, to let it out. I am work at the mo and nearly in tears.

Thank you all.

if it helps you identify what it is, my pain would take my breath away, i would be talking and have to stop, grip my desk, hold my breath and then breath deeply out - it also felt like i had to stop myself farting cos i had a lot of pressure in my bottom!

GoodGollyMissMolly · 26/09/2007 16:23

The pains are still there, but not regular, and not getting more intense so hopefully it's nothing, just cant help worrying. I am trying to calm down and sit quiet, just cant get comfortable!!

mishymoo · 26/09/2007 16:23

If you're that worried (and I know you are), go and get yourself checked out at the hospital. That's what they are there for at the end of the day. And like another poster said, you won't be the first to go in with a false alarm. Is this your first baby?

Take care

GoodGollyMissMolly · 26/09/2007 16:26

Meeely2, it doesn't quite stop me from talking, but it does seem to take my breath away, I also feel like I want to fart but nothing happens.

Cant wait to get home for my bath and a lay down on the sofa.

GoodGollyMissMolly · 26/09/2007 16:28

Mishymoo, yes this is my first baby (can you tell )

Dh picks me up in about an hour, and I'm not sure if I should go straight to the maternity home or go home and have a bath to see if it eases the pain.

OP posts:
mishymoo · 26/09/2007 16:30

TBH - I would go straight to maternity ward - get them to check you over! It will put your mind at rest.

LOL at being able to tell it was your first

Please keep us updated.

Meeely2 · 26/09/2007 16:30

getting worked up and worried can bring things on faster if it is labour, so yes, go home, bath, have some chocolate, chill out, listen to some music and then keep a little log of the times you get pain, as you may not be registering a pattern (i certainly didnt until i got home).

GoodGollyMissMolly · 26/09/2007 16:42

Thanks I will keep you updated.
Good idea to log the times to see if there a pattern, will deffo do that.

Thank you all so much for helping me with my worries, as I have never been so scared before.

xx

goodgollymissmolly are you ok?

GoodGollyMissMolly · 27/09/2007 08:37

Morning Caz10, thank you for asking if I'm ok.

I feel alright this morning, a bit sore and tired but other than that I feel ok.
I went home and called the MW again who told me to take a bath and lay down for a while to see if it eased off and to call her back if the pains got more regular and intense.
The bath helped with the pains lots. I took 2 paracetomols and went to bed and managed to get some sleep.

I'm not having the pains this morning, but as I said I'm just feeling a little sore.

Thank you all for your advice and concerns, this is why I love MN

PregnantGrrrl · 27/09/2007 09:01

i was quite hopeful TBH- i'm 37 wks and really struggling with a sore back. I only mentioned it to DH though...waited a bit and i think i'd just eaten too much hot food. Bugger!

Glad you've got some time to go though

GoodGollyMissMolly · 27/09/2007 09:05

Awww never mind PregnantGrrrl, I'm sure LO will come soon for you, I bet you ready for LO to get here by now, I know I would be.

I could murder a curry but LO doesn't like them so I am having to wait untill I've given birth!!

Hope all goes well for you.
