Hi everyone x

I recently found out I'm pregnant. So I decided to pay for a private scan as I found out I was 6+2 days at the time (had the scan at 6 weeks and two days). Today I'm 7 weeks. The ultrasound detected a heart beat at the scan and it is strong and healthy. Does this lower the chance of miscarriage? Or would the statistics still remain the same?

New yet paranoid momma to be x

I know i sound insane but I still take pregnancy tests. Although I've had my scan and the pregnancy was confirmed by the doctor. I think my anxiety plays a huge part in this.

Congratulations.. don't worry it's very normal for a first time mum to get anxious. I'd suggest try to distract yourself, start looking at baby stuff or start planning with your partner about how you want to decorate the nursery etc
The more you talk about the baby, the more real it'll seem to you and that way you might stop doing pregnancy tests to make yourself believe you're pregnant lol. I remember this phase only too well when I fell pregnant for the first time.

I was the same as you - very paranoid about miscarriage and would test everyday just to make sure the line was still there and strong and also had an early scan. I’m now 32 weeks with a very active baby boy growing away in there. When I found out I was pregnant I’d be reading the MN forums everyday and noticed a lot of people sadly experienced a miscarriage and I think this made me more paranoid because it made miscarriage seem more common and likely. But if you think about it people don’t need to post if they’re having a healthy pregnancy, they often post when something goes wrong and they’re reaching out for help or support so it does make it seem more common.

The risk of miscarriage does drop a lot once you see a heartbeat on a scan, and continues to drop everyday and the odds oh having a healthy pregnancy are definitely in your favour! It’s easier said than done, but try to relax and enjoy pregnancy. I found it much easier after my 12 week scan.

This message was so helpful and you're right when you read things on miscarriage it does make you even more paranoid and makes it seem even more common especially when you know people in your personal life who have gone through this. It's hard to relax especially when it's your first but for the sake of the baby I know it's something I've got to do and keep myself distracted. To make things feel more real I've been buying baby clothes little by little. & I suppose at my 12 week scan I'll deffo be less paranoid! And thank you! Congratulations to you too xSmile
