Did end up calling the hospital to say I feel like he has reduced movements they said because normally I am sleeping at this time baby might just be sleeping too I should give him an hour to see if he moves which he actually did couple of times so didnt need to get him checked

Hey op,

I struggled with this too, baby would have one active day then 2 quiet ones. Always best to call in if you're worried they would prefer you did over not calling and leaving it so glad you did :)

I've never been told that baby should have active & quiet days...that sounds like dangerous advice to me.
Your baby will have its own pattern of movements. You are able to describe their movements which suggests there is a pattern? My baby never had a pattern that I could recognise and so I was monitored for low movements throughout pregnancy. I went once a week to the day unit.
I would tell your midwife about your concerns and always call the hospital if you're concerned that movements have changed.

Sorry, I've just re-read previous post and noticed that YOUR baby had active & quiet days. Apologies.

I've have this too OP - 37 weeks now and still can't discern a particular pattern (times of day etc). As long as he's moved enough in the day I don't worry about it - I got a kicks counter app for a while and once I paid better attention realised how much he was moving. If you're worried, call your midwife, and don't let them fob you off.

I've got an anterior placenta so have wondered if he does have a pattern and I just don't feel it all the time, or it could be that he just doesn't hold to a particular schedule, or that I'm crap at noticing any sort of pattern (I hate routine, so don't think I'm good at noticing it either!).

But to reiterate - if worried, call. Always always always better to do so.

I would always call. I'm suprised they told you to wait an hour before going in.

I'm 38 weeks pregnant and I think my baby only really got into a pattern at about 36 weeks

I did find using an app called time for baby really helped me thou as you can see each day and the kicks it is much much easier than kick counter and has helped my anxiety no end !

Hey OP, try writing it down for a few days as to when you feel the movements, and maybe you'll spot a pattern then? Some of my little one's patterns aren't time related, it's more like 'if I have a hot drink, she wriggles' and 'if I roll from one side to the other during the night, I can feel her resettling as well'.

She will move a lot for me for a little while, (often at particular times of day) and then be still for a while. That's part of what's normal for her. It does freak me out a little if I don't notice her moving in the morning sometimes, but I remind myself that she might just be sleeping too! And usually I'll then feel at least a bit of movement if I pay attention for an hour.

One midwife I saw also said that the 'pattern' could be baby moving after you eat particular types or flavours of food, which I thought sounded very specific!

I never spotted a pattern with my DD, but if she’d been quiet for a bit I’d have a cold glass of water, which always got her wriggling again!

Some movements being strong and some weak doesn’t sound like a problem (I’m no expert), I think that’s normal and will also depend on their positioning? An hour also doesn’t sound that long to me to not notice movements, but if you’re worried you should always call.

I struggled with movements too, he'd always have a busy day then go quiet for 24-36 hours.
I was always in being monitored.
Went in for reduced movements again at 39 weeks, scanned, and he had stopped growing at 37 weeks so was induced.

I'm pregnant again and they are monitoring me, so many midwife and sonographers have said it's so so important to be checked, movements are the first indicator of baby's well being.
I'm so glad I was on the ball with it.
He may not have made it if I didn't go in and went over due, potentially 5 weeks without growth.
Luckily I have a healthy boy and so. Glad I'll have extra scans this time to make sure it doesn't happen again.

I'm 33 weeks with an anterior placenta and have given up trying to work out a pattern as it changes every time I think I have a pattern. I mentioned it at my 32 week midwife appointment and she said that can be normal and to not worry, obviously if I feel like something is wrong or have a lack of movements to call in. Luckily baby moves often enough for me not to worry and like a pp he seems to react to food/drink more than certain times of the day.

Needingsupportplease · 29/06/2020 08:58

My babies pattern was quiet and then mad days however she was born poorly and unsure how she was poorly for or if this was a normal pattern! I asked many midwives and got checked about 9 times before been induced because of it. Always get checked my instinct told me something wasnt right I dread to think what could of happened if I hadn't of pushed for an induction x

mummabubs · 29/06/2020 09:06

Probably not helpful but I went to 42+1 with my DS and although I'd feel at least a few movements every day I never felt they were in a reliable or predictable pattern. If you're worried then best ask to be checked, but I know it can feel really uncertain when your pattern is that there is no obvious pattern to detect!
