Holiday-am I being neurotic!?

Honest opinions needed - I can be a bit of a worrier, multiplied x 10000 now I’m pregbo and advice needed!

DH and I love Scotland and have been desperate to go to the Isle of Mull for years. We were supposed to go at Easter but had to cancel due to COVID. We’ve now found a nice cottage to stay mid August at which point I’ll be 29 weeks pregnant. I’m desperate to go for the week for relaxation but it’s remote - a ferry ride from mainland hospital and prob a helicopter from a major obstetrics /specialist hospital. I’m really fortunate to have had a straightforward pregnancy so far but wonder if it’s Too big of a risk not having a big maternity unit close by.
Would you guys make the trip? Am I right to be worried? Any views and opinions welcome as I’m not sure if I’m being neurotic or sensible! Xxx

I flew 5000 miles 3 weeks before my due date with DS1 and again with DS2 with a 2 year old in tow so I think you should go if you are fit and well.

Being near a hospital wouldn't have even crossed my mind at 29 weeks, we went on a few holidays when i was pregnant

ALC1985 · 27/06/2020 17:36

I'd say youd be ok, worst case scenario, which is highly unlikely, you would get airlifted to the nearest hospital with a maternity unit, but, the chances are youd be absolutely fine. Beautiful part of the world! Scotland has also reported for the second day in a row, no new covid deaths so were doing something right

WeeScottishWife · 27/06/2020 17:36

I might be biased because I grew up very close to Mull, on the mainland, and have visited the islands on the west coast a lot, but - the locals manage all the time. I'm sure you'll be fine, especially as you've said you've had a straightforward pregnancy so far.

Ultimately though it's what will you feel comfortable with :)

I’m assuming you’ve had your 20 week scan by now? If you’ve had that it and it was all fine then I’d go but if not I’d just wait for that just to be sure.

WeeScottishWife · 27/06/2020 17:39

Oh, and another thought just to add - if you were being airlifted, they would take you probably to Glasgow, or one of the ones on the outskirts of the city; although it's a long winding drive from Glasgow out to Oban where the ferry goes from to Mull, it's a fairly short distance in a straight line so wouldn't be a particularly long flight.

Atadaddicted · 27/06/2020 17:39

100% yes I’d go

But then I look back I what I was doing when I was 29 weeks and really it wasn’t any different to when I wasn’t pregnant!

Only changed really post 32

Atadaddicted · 27/06/2020 17:41

But depends on your pregnancy and health
I was in fine fettle throughout

MadameDePompadour · 27/06/2020 17:42

Thank you for your thoughts everyone! Nice to hear some sensible and considered opinions rather than poor old DH just saying ‘it’s fine stop being weird’ 🤣
@WeeScottishWife you are totally not biased - Scotland is such an amazing place and we love it so much hence the reason for wanting to go once more before baby arrives! My stupid brain was also like ‘great place to go to avoid crowds and therefore Covid’ but then 5 mins later ‘oh my god what about maternity care?!?!’. Really wish I could tell my brain to shut up sometimes!

It's horrible having these worries but please go and enjoy yourself and relax. If anything was to happen you honestly would be well looked after.

I love Mull. It’s not a really long journey to the main island so I’d say you’ll be fine at that gestation x
