Period pain at 36 weeks

Would love some advice and reassurance Sad I am 36 weeks pregnant and for the last week or so I've had about four episodes of painful period pain that lasts a few hours and then eases off and doesn't return until another day.

However today at 4am I was awake with pretty intense period pain, enough to make me need to get out of bed and walk about.
It eased off at 7.30am but then started again at around lunchtime and lasted 40 mins or so and has since stopped again.

I've lost my appetite and generally don't feel great but the pain has stopped and so I'm thinking it can't be much to worry about?

I'm also very weepy for seemingly no reason which is very unlike me.

I will call triage if the period pain returns again, but wondered if other women have experienced this around 36 weeks?

I figured because it lasts continuously it couldn't be contractions?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've been getting this and am 36 weeks. My midwife has said it's just braxton hicks and my body preparing for labour.

As long as it's not consistent and getting stronger then it's probably not labour.

It’s just the womb preparing for baby being born. I always get them near the end. Sometimes really strong. My last lot with twins were so strong they felt like labour pains (I would say about half way through labour) and I went to hospital in an ambulance as I thought it was all starting too early! Turned out just braxton hicks again. Some nights I was on all fours with my husband rubbing my back but just all braxton hicks! You will know if it’s real labour because they will be coming regularly and get closer together. They will also get stronger and stronger

Braxton Hicks -nothing to be concerned about but let your midwife know. It is just the uterus getting ready -don't worry. They can happy from second trimester.

Interestingly they can be brought on by dehydration and if you are anything like me I reduced the drinking water, as I just wanted to wee all the time, so became dehydtated. So plenty of water. If they are really painful -please contact your midwife and let her know

Yep Braxton Hicks

Thank you that makes me feel much better! I have so much to do and not ready for baby to come yet Grin your replies have put me at ease.

I've got some tightening at the bottom of bump at the moment but period pain hasn't returned so hoping that's the end of it for now.

From personal experience (I hasn't to say I didn't buy it but a friend lent me an American ice cube thing like this www.amazon.co.uk/IKICH-Machine-Counter-Display-Electric/dp/B07SGC1F3D/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=ice+maker&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1593180825&sr=8-1) Crushed ice in water bottle and sip sip sip made a massive difference. Not altogether sure I would have wanted to fork out £200 for a 6 min ice maker though! But it was on the counter and made ice cubes which I lobbed in everything and it made a hugh difference. Good luck with the home run!

Crushed ice like in a slush puppy ------yummy!

@SummerDayWinterEvenings How lovely would it be to have one though!

I had this from 36 weeks and kept thinking it was the start of something. Mentioned it at midwife appointments and she said it was just my body getting ready. He was born at 39 weeks and I don't know if it was a coincidence or if it was down to all the pains I'd had whilst my body prepared but it was a crazy fast birth! x

Cheesecakejar · 26/06/2020 16:03

I had period like pains at 4am at exactly 36 weeks, my waters broke at 10.30pm that night! Just a little warning for you 😂 baby came 3 days later. 3 days of slow labour wasnt much fun!

Cheesecakejar · 26/06/2020 16:04

Rereading that I really think it sounds like the start of something, keep us updated 😊

BabyB19 · 26/06/2020 16:10

I'm 32 weeks and have had it on and off all day today and lower back pain, I was thinking Braxton Hicks too but I thought that it wasn't supposed to be painful? 🤔

IJustWantFiveMinutesAlone · 26/06/2020 16:12

I had similar for a good four weeks before my baby was born. Instead of thinking of it as stop/start or 'nothing happening' I tried to imagine it as puzzle pieces all being put into place as my body got itself ready to give birth. Good luck op for when that happens Smile

eandz13 · 26/06/2020 16:19

I hope it's something more exciting for you, but when I've experienced this on and off during pregnancy it's turned out to be a slight water infection. Possibly see if you can nip to see midwife for a urine test? If you've had one lately then ignore me and keep us updated! Good luck!
