Morning Ladies,

I'll be having an ELCS for medical reasons and just wondering if you put anything on your wound afterwards to help prevent infection / promote faster healing or if you just let it heal on its own?

Thanks x

Heal on its on. Just let water wash over it in the shower and leave well alone Smile

Let it heal on its own and keep it clean and dry; pat it dry rather than rub it.

I didn’t put anything on mine (emergency c section so wasn’t too prepped) and it healed fine without any infection. You’ll have a bandage across it for the first week if I remember rightly.

Put nothing on mine. I did however use maternity pads protect it at first, bit of extra cushioning! Stick them to the inside front of some big knickers & it really helps. Just make sure you do give it some air as well.

Stand up as straight as possible when you first get up - helps everything heal in the right place. I took arnica and put a few drops of tea tree oil in the bath - no idea if it helped but it can't hurt!

Contrary to other posters, I found spraying it with very diluted tea tree oil (diluted with cool boiled water, only a couple of drops of tea tree oil, sprayed from a new atomiser) and patting it dry with kitchen roll really soothing.

The wound wept a little (clear fluid, not hot, not smelly) when it was healing and a spray and dab really made me feel 100% cleaner.

I bathed twice a day with a few drops of tea tree oil (not too much as it is so strong) and lavender. Then when you get out of the bath, lie down and dry the wound area with a hair dryer.
Wear MASSIVE granny nickers (I'm 12-14 and got size 24) and across the top of your nickers stick a thick maternity/ sanitary towel so it will give the wound a little extra cushion.
Take arnica tablets as soon as you have the baby. It promotes healing from within.
I've had 2 sections and heading towards my third and I swear by these wee hacks
