How to cope during heatwave while heavily pregnant

I can’t be the only one absolutely dying in this heat!

I’m 33 weeks and it’s 30 degrees in England where I am today and I am struggling! I had taken to driving round for a few hours just so that I could use my cars air con to cool down, but now that I’m back in the house I’m losing the will to live 😂

It’s so hot outside that I will deffo burn if I sit out (I have no sun cream and I am super pale) but it feels 100x hotter indoors 😬

I’ve been squirting my head with a water bottle for temporary relief but it isn’t doing much.

Is anyone else struggling? It doesn’t help I’ve got basically no summer maternity clothes as I’ve barely been out since lockdown, I’ve just been wearing my boyfriends joggers and T-shirt’s which aren’t exactly weather appropriate anymore Hmm

Im 35+4 and I invested in a childs paddling pool from argos yesterday morning. Was only £18 but is absolutely perfect!
I have spent the last two days sat in the pool, under the umbrella with suncream and a book.
Such a relief in this heat too!

33+ here too and dying. DS is 19 months and clingy as hell so it's no sleep, sweaty skin everywhere, godawful stretched out summer clothes and a fan pushing warm air around. Don't dare go in the south facing garden which is in full sun most of the day until evening. It's like sitting in a bowl of warm soup. 2 winter babies before, much more sensible!

coffeeorwine · 25/06/2020 17:33

Frozen hot water bottles help at night if anyone is struggling with sleep! I’ve also been eyeing up the dogs cool mat Confused

Lovelostnfoundx · 25/06/2020 17:39

41+3 here and just ordered a luxury double air bed for downstairs as upstairs is 35 degrees! Also ordered a paddling pool for my swollen feet. Can’t wait to collect from Argos in an hour!

heroineinahalfshell · 25/06/2020 18:49

Have you tried any of your normal summer clothes to see if they fit? I'm 32w and I can still fit into my jumpsuits and maxi dresses from last year, because they're all stretchy/elasticated/empire waisted. Worth a go!

Other than that I've no advice, our house is roasting and we only own one fan so I'm just melting.

crazychemist · 25/06/2020 19:17

Seconding cool baths, and let yourself air dry afterwards. If you’ve got a fan, keep a flannel in a bowl of water next to you - wipe over arms/chest/forehead with the fan pointed at you so it evaporates - wonderfully cooling. Drink lots of cold drinks (ice! Wonderful stuff) or even better make yourself some ice pops to suck on.

bestservices · 25/06/2020 20:34

Cool bath or shower then lie on a towel on your bed wet with a fan on.
Paddling pool outside (buy suncream tomorrow).
Leave all curtains and windows shut during the day then when the sun is going down open them up to cool your room down.
Drink plenty of cold water, eat ice lollies.
Run your wrists under cold water.
Sit with your feet in a bucket of cold / iced water while relaxing (change water regularly as it warms up)

My sympathies, my son was born 8 days over in a July.

I'm 4.5 months pregnant at the moment and haven't gained any weight yet so I'm doing ok. It is very warm though.

bestservices · 25/06/2020 20:38

Order some summer maternity stuff from Asda x

RoseGoldEagle · 25/06/2020 20:50

THNG5 and erised24 do you mind me asking which air con unit you got?

I made DH spray me with a garden spray gun filled with water as I sat in very little in front of a fan.

Flumo · 25/06/2020 20:58

39 weeks, 2 fans, cold drinks and a sprinkler 😅 still struggled the last 2 days.

Emmy2020 · 25/06/2020 20:58

@Babyshine2020 That made me laugh 😂

CertainGecko · 25/06/2020 20:59

41 weeks here, got SC in the house so can't go naked. Got my DD who needs entertaining too. My feet are swollen and roasting hot. I stick to the leather couch, I boil on the bed. The grass was cool just before so I sat on that and got stuck getting up!

It's cooling down tomorrow thank goodness and it looks like it won't heat up until after I've given birth now.

a12345b · 25/06/2020 20:59

Just wait a couple of days it will go back down

Emmy2020 · 25/06/2020 21:04

I’m 27 weeks can’t cope with this, please can we just have some rain?? I have a small air con I got from Lidl kind of helps and fans n the room. Kept curtains closed. Just had a shower and going to sleep downstairs. Still absolutely baking though.

Christmastree43 · 25/06/2020 21:21

I'm glad you ladies can sympathise, this is no fun!! Some great tips here too.

Bring on the rain 🙌

CoolNoMore · 25/06/2020 21:32

Make ice in tupperware/ old takeaway containers, and chuck a couple of those in a paddling pool or bucket for your feet. And why wear clothes?! Be freeee and nudieeeee

Emmy2020 · 26/06/2020 00:46

So currently have one fan on and one air con sleeping downstairs on the air bed and I actually feel cool 👍👍

Wigglebum87 · 26/06/2020 08:25

@coffeeorwine the frozen hot water bottle is genius! It made last night so much comfier!

coffeeorwine · 26/06/2020 08:44

@wigglebum87 glad it helped! X

BillyAndTheSillies · 26/06/2020 09:06

This was me last year, shut all the curtains or blinds, strip down to knickers and languish on the sofa with a fan blowing directly at me.

Also running the tap really cold and putting my wrists under it really helped.

Do everything as slowly as possible!
