Hi everyone, if i have a Covid 19 shielding letter from government that states I cannot go back to work until 1 August will I be entitled to some kind of pay? I’ve been off work due to pregnancy related illness but work have been asking for sick notes from the doctor but I thought the letter should cover me until 1 August. Please help...I’m so confused 😐

I think it depends on your company and the policy they have put in place to deal with corona. I would imagine most companies will pay you ssp at the very least so you need to speak to your boss about it.

Thanks, Ive spoke to my boss and she keeps requesting sick notes but when I ring the doctor he says I’m covered by the letter until the 1st August...

Best to speak to your HR as you are looking at 2 different things really.

Covid 19 letter, would depend on your company policy. I'm shielding too and just had to send them my letter for their records. They are also keeping me on full pay and have said I'm not to go back to work. I'm wfh until I start my mat leave in late August.

They are asking for doctors notes as you are off work for maternity related sickness. You should check your policy as it should highlight pay etc for this.

Thanks Amichelle84

Yeah, as pp said, you're looking at 2 different things here: if you're sick and unable to work then that would need a sick note.

If you're OK and just shielding as a precaution (ie able to work from home or physically go to work but only with very strict restrictions in place) then that's what the shielding letter is for.

Thankyou I have received the letter due to complications/risks in my pregnancy its the same reason I’ve been off sick from work.

@xxmrsbxx not sure where you stand with that then as the letter is just for shielding whereas if you're actually off sick as in cant work at all then you would normally need a sick note.
