Snoring Husbands?

claraq · 25/09/2007 14:28

I have noticed that quite a few of us in the December thread have a problem with our Dh's waking us at night with their snoring. I have kicked my husband into the spare room as it is so bad. Ear plugs didn't help, once he started snoring there was no way I was going back to sleep.

So why is it that our DH's snoring disturbs us so much more while we are pregnant? Is it that we no longer sleep through it? Or are they disturbed by us moving around so much so are always in a lighter sleep, during which they snore more?

I don't remember this being such a problem during my first pregnancy. Please someone tell me we'll be able to sleep in the same bed again after this baby comes!

i'm trying to not kill mine. he goes straight to sleep while i'm trying to get comfy, then he starts snoring like a piggy.

Cazzybaby · 25/09/2007 15:53

Oh my God my DP got booted in the legs about 20 times last night he just would not shut up!

I have taught him to role onto his side in his sleep on demand and that usually stops it but last night it was awful!

missbumpy · 25/09/2007 16:01

I'm having the same problem. Another unwanted side-effect of pregnancy is that he claims I've started snoring like a foghorn too !

Naetha · 25/09/2007 16:53

THankfully DH doesn't snore that much. Unfortunately one of our cats snores like a foghorn, and it usually wakes me up really slowly where the snoring turns into conversation in my head, and I'm convinced there's somebody talking downstairs, or we've left the TV on - its very annoying!

peskipixie · 25/09/2007 16:59

my mum bought some strips to put on my dads nose because he is so bad (nothing to do with pg!) and they worked. cant remember the name of them but they are the ones supposed to open up the nasal passages, ive seen them on tv. might be worth a try?

Caz10 · 25/09/2007 17:42

these are the answer!

I swear by these, other earplugs have not worked at all, not even the industrial ones DH brought home from work.

I used to be in tears throughout the night through lack of sleep - not any more!

DonDons · 25/09/2007 19:44

My husband is a chronic snorer and we tried everything but the only thing that worked was from here. Honestly - a god send.

chunkypudding · 25/09/2007 20:43

Getting him to sleep on his side may help, does with mine. It's lying on their back that usually makes for the hideous noise...

A trick I read somewhere if he's snoring while lying on back is to yank one side of his pillow upwards, which makes him roll over. I've used this lots and it works most times. Also now he knows that rolling over stops the snoring I can often just say loudly 'you're snoring babe, roll on your side' and it WORKS!!

If all that fails I hit him

PregnantGrrrl · 26/09/2007 01:01

i want to f*king kill him. i need some sleep f*ker!

going back to bed to try again for some sleep...

xXxamyxXx · 26/09/2007 01:04

am not pg but dh snoring will see me in a jail cell one of these days have hurt myself hitting and kicking him but once he starts there is no stopping him

slim22 · 26/09/2007 02:25

earplugs! been using them for years now!

alkar · 26/09/2007 11:11

My DH snores really badly, he is now in the spare room and I can still hear him with ear plugs in. He had an operation last december which worked for about 2 weeks then started again worse than before. We dont sleep together at all now which is sad but at least we both get a decent nights sleep.

mixedmama · 26/09/2007 11:31

brilliant - i thought i was actually going to smother DH last night his snoring was so bad. i am off to superdrug at lunch time to try those nasal strips.

PregnantGrrrl · 26/09/2007 11:37

i went to buy a snoring spray for DH this morning- the pharmacist felt so sorry for me hobbling looking huge and explaining the problem, that she gave it to me half price!

DonDons · 26/09/2007 18:17

Alkar - we were in exactly the same position as you - even before I was PG - I used to sleep in the spare room about 5 nights a week just to stop me killing him. Could hear him from everywhere in the house and holidays (no escape in a hotel) were a nightmare. See my previous post - Hope things will get better for you.

SuperMonkey · 26/09/2007 18:24

Yep - we're in separate rooms too. It definitely has improved our relationship because we both get a decent night's sleep. I used to wear ear plugs but now I worry that I won't hear DS if he needs me in the night.

mixedmama · 27/09/2007 09:33

I have had a bit of a breakthrough.

Bought those nasal strips they advertise on the TV and altho they didnt completely stop the snoring they did reduce it significantly and it does say you need to use them for six nights to see a difference so very happy.

PregnantGrrrl · 27/09/2007 09:47

success with the spray aswell- no snoring for a few hours, then greatly reduced volume! Hoorah!

I have been tempted to put a pillow over dh's head

His snoaring has got worse and ATM i am sleeping on the sofa to stop myself killing him, i can still hear him down stairs and he wakes up Dd1.

preggersagain · 27/09/2007 10:15

dh has got the cold i had last week- by god its really annoying- was laying there at 3.30am (after the umpteenth time of going for a pee) comtemplating either the pillow treatment or sticking the earplugs up his flipping nose!!

mixedmama · 28/09/2007 11:41

So annoyed. After the success of Wedn night DH decided not to bother wearing the patches, cue a very angry me waking up at 2.23 am - yes I was that angry that i checked the exact time and sticking the bloody thing on his nose myself... didnt seem as effective yesterday tho.
