Would you use this when pregnant?

I have really tight shoulders, and occasional pain in my lower back. So after using my friends massager, I bought one. Then I read the instructions and it said “Not suitable for pregnant women”. I’m not worried about having used it, just interested if anyone has any advice on using it moving forwards. I can’t really see what the medical risk is when using it on shoulders and lower back, and have a feeling the company are just covering their backs. What do you think?
Thanks in advance.

Why wouldn’t you? It’s not going to harm baby!

No.

I think it might be to do with when you have a massage, it releases toxins into your system, which isn't advisable during pregnancy. So personally I would avoid using it.

Yes on shoulders but I wouldn’t use it on my lower back.

I am useless so cant explain why because I dont know.. but when I was pregnant MIL tried to book us both for a massage but they wouldnt do me one because I was pregnant. I also have this same massager and it's quite harsh so I probably wouldnt use it. Especially not on the lower back. Try a hot water bottle.

I'd say no in first trimester as all massage is advised against but as your 21 weeks maybe it would be okay on your shoulders perhaps?

I'm a massage therapist and have something similar and I'll be honest no matter how bad my backs been I've not used it, only because of toxin release and pressure points, i havent felt comfortable but its completely up to the individual.

Thanks for the responses. I’ve been looking up on the impact of toxin release but haven’t found anything related to pregnancy. x

There's little good science to support the theory that massage releases toxins into your system. My concern would be more related to the changes that pregnancy causes in your ligaments, making them much more flexible and making injury much easier. I don't think there would be a problem using it on your shoulders but a reputable massage therapist would be very wary of massaging a pregnant woman's sacral area and I think you should be too.

I’ll lay off it for now, and just stare longingly at it! 2nd time round is definitely all feeling more painful than I remember 😬x
