Hello - inherent worrier here. Had 28 week Midwife appointment today and urine had leucocytes. Midwife didn't seem concerned and has sent off sample. Second baby but first time having this... anyone else had a similar experience?

Thank you

Yeah I’ve had high leukocytes twice. Once I tested myself due to cancelled midwife appointments and I called my GP who prescribed me precautionary antibiotics. The second time was at my midwife appointment and she didn’t seem concerned. Just told me to drink lots of water and cranberry juice. My urine was clear at the next appointment so I wouldn’t worry if I were you and just drink lots of water

Please don't worry. Leukocytes potentially indicate a urine infection, which is why your midwife will have sent the sample off. If you need antibiotics she'll get them sorted for you. UTIs are really common in pregnancy and are nothing to worry about when caught and treated.

I had some in my urine around 35 weeks. They asked if I had any symptoms of a urine infection (which I didnt) as that is apparently what they point to. The midwife then said it might be caused by discharge which is normal.

At my 40 week sweep, they were gone and I never had any adverse effects from them and gave birth perfectly fine.

Thank you so much everyone, that's all really helpful.

It’s indicative of a urine infection.

I had a trace of this at the beginning of June and I asked my consultant about it. She said that although it can point to a urine infection, she wasn't too concerned because there was nothing else in my urine to suggest that's what it was eg protein, blood etc. She said with an infection, she'd expect to see further indicators and that chances are, it was discharge or some other form of contaminant in my sample. And sure enough, at my next appointment, sample was clear.

There are different levels. It is common
For discharge to cause contamination and not necessarily a urine infection. I had slightly raised levels, no symptoms
Of a urine infection and just drank lots of water for a few days to flush out any potential infection. I was fine.

Thanks everyone. No other symptoms but aware I haven't been drinking much water (always a bad habit of mine!). Will step up my water intake and see how it goes. Thanks again!
