Hey guys, any pregnant runners out there? Just wondering how long you managed to carry it on for? I'm 19 weeks now and can literally get round. 5k now witj stops for a breather which is fine but a nice new symptom is now I feel every stride I take it's like someone punches me in the bladder which I guess the baby is really Grin but even though my bladder is empty it feels so full Confused just wanting to hear any others experiences xx

Watching this with interest! Currently 9 wks and wondering how long I can keep it going for!

MadameDePompadour · 23/06/2020 18:05

Hi I’m 20+5 and still running and enjoying it. Changes I’ve made:
-taking water with me even for a short jog
-accepting a slow pace and the need to walk up hills

  • be near a toilet at all times.
  • Rather than running in the road or fells like I used to I’m now driving to my local park Or club track and running1km laps so that I can just stop if I get too tired.

Good luck with your running and keep it up it’s really helped me with relaxation and mental health. I think as long as you fell ok it’s good to keep going, just adjust to your bodies needs. I’m hoping to go as long as I can x

sarahc336 · 23/06/2020 18:07

I had to stop for the sickness phase so I didn't run between weeks 6-13 so if your still doing it at 9 weeks I'm impressed. I didn't run at all through my first pregnancy, probably too nervous so not sure how women normally get on xx

I managed until 28 weeks and to be honest most of my body felt like it could have carried on except for my bladder, I just couldn’t do it anymore. 37 weeks now and still doing long walks with the dog but couldn’t imagine the motion of running xxx

sarahc336 · 23/06/2020 18:11

@MadameDePompadour thank you for your post I might too start taking water with me especially when it's warmer Smile good to hear your still managing to get out there xx

I kept it up until 28 weeks- much slower and lots of walking and water breaks - but ultimately baby's bonce bouncing on bladder made it too uncomfortable. With DS I was doing circuit classes until about 36 weeks though so I guess there's always alternatives!

IronMummy28 · 23/06/2020 18:54

@sarahc336 I’ve struggled a few times that’s for sure! It’s not too bad once I’m up and out... just getting there! Nice to know people have managed for a bit longer though.

bee222 · 23/06/2020 19:14

I’m only 14 weeks but I’m still running and hoping to carry on.
I used to run long distance trails regularly, but now I get out of breath really easily so I’m sticking to 3-5 miles. I’ve just accepted that I need to walk up hills now and occasionally have to stop to bring my heart rate down.

On really hot days I’m just going out for a walk because I don’t want to risk overheating. Tempted to set a 5am alarm for tomorrow though to try and beat the heat!

Birdy1991 · 23/06/2020 19:29

I ran until 22 weeks and miss it loads. My bump started to hurt afterwards (think it was braxton hicks) and it wasn’t worth it after that. I’m 35 weeks now

Carabu1 · 23/06/2020 19:37

Watching this with interest as I am (was!) a super keen runner. I’m 13 weeks now and have kept running so far, but have massively reduced mileage and intensity from what I was doing before. Now I’m basically ways jogging about 20-25miles a week over 4 sessions, using hr monitor to keep hr below 140. I struggle in the heat though now so try to avoid hot days. Really hope I can keep going, It helps me feel like me, not just a pregnant woman!

Yorkshirelass251 · 23/06/2020 19:52

I don't have much advice but I'm also trying to carry on running. I really struggled with sickness and exhaustion until week 11/12 but I'm finding it a little easier now (currently 15 weeks). I'm just having to accept going so much slower and not as far as what I would have done previously. My concern is my heartrate as it gets up to 180 running.

sarahc336 · 23/06/2020 19:59

My heart rate can get that high too so I now just take lots of little breaks for some deep breaths to bring it back down again, they say thy at running if you were a runner is safe but I think watching the heat at the min is probably sensible isn't it xx

I’m 21 weeks. Haven’t run since last week due to worsening hip and pelvic pain. I’ve got a chiropractor appointment at the end of the week so hopefully I’ll be able to get back to it. I had been loving it and was running four times per week at a steady pace.

sunshinefordays · 23/06/2020 21:37

I am 28 weeks on Friday and still going - slowly!

Similarly to posters above, I am just taking it very easy. Jogging 2-3 times a week about 10km each time.

I've been doing pelvic floor exercises all the way through and jogging still feels manageable. I do feel a bit like I'm carrying a basketball in front of me now though!

My midwife is very supportive of keeping it up for as long as it feels comfortable. Smile

BMWL · 24/06/2020 17:45

I'm going to follow this as I'm very interested.
I'm a keen runner, would do 5-7km every 2-4 days.
I'm currently 5+3 and I haven't ran since I found out I'm pregnant because I'm very nervous. I'm having an early scan tomorrow due to previous pregnancy complications, so if all is well tomorrow then I'm getting my running shoes back on
X

IronMummy28 · 24/06/2020 18:18

So encouraging to hear all your responses! I feel like some people judge you a bit for running whilst pregnant.

@BMWL I was nervous at first two but once you’ve been out a few times you soon get used to the idea!

BMWL · 24/06/2020 18:45

@IronMummy28 thank you for your reply! That's reassuring. Once the scan goes well tomorrow (fingers crossed) I am back out there!! 🏃🏼‍♀️

flack · 24/06/2020 18:49

39 weeks with DC2. 38+ with DC1. Had suspected placenta previa with DC3 so stopped at 20 wks.

You probably know: keep hydrated, don't overheat, don't get too tired...

I get very bad morning sickness until about 16 wks. Late pregnancy is a doddle in comparison.

sarahc336 · 26/06/2020 07:12

@BMWL I gave up running with my first pregnancy due to being nervous but then regretted not even giving it a try and then by that point felt I'd left it too long to start again as I'd list my fitness and already had a biggish bump. This pregnancy I've been more determined to try and as someone e previously said once you've done a couple of runs and seen that's it's safe you'll feel better. As long as you don't do anymore than what you'd previously been doing and watch for over heating and being too out of breath (think your meant to still be able to talk) then you'll be fine, let us know how you get on Smile xx

Thank you to everyone for the advice on running.
Unfortunately my pregnancy has ended due to it being another ectopic. Hopefully I will come back to this thread in the future x

sarahc336 · 01/07/2020 05:53

@BMWL very sorry to hear this, look after yourself Thanks xx

I’ve been running and feel fine. I go for a wee before I step out the door. I prob do 3-4k.
My nipples are incredibly sore after, apart from that it’s good. I’m 18 weeks.
