Buggy board or not?

I'm due DC2 in November and DD1 will be 19 months old. We have a babylo panorama travel system which I'm wanting to use for DC2 as it's still in excellent condition. November; rainy, wet and cold (usually) so it's not like we'll be going on any long walks - also I'm having an elective section so won't be up to moving about lots for a few weeks. We use the car a lot, DH also drives so the run up to Christmas we will be out in his car and from end of December onwards I'll hopefully be back in my own car. AIBU NOT to get a double buggy/buggy board?

Reasons for not getting a double buggy:-
DD1 will be coming up 2 by the time the weather breaks - I don't want to spend £££ to get a double buggy when realistically I don't want her in it for a long time, which would mean if we got one only using it for a few weeks and then reverting back to the original travel system that we already have for DC2

Reasons for not getting a buggy board:-
Read that they are a nightmare to walk behind and clip your ankles
DD1 will most likely try to get off it!

I know she'll walk a lot slower but id rather have her on reins if we do go for a walk and just go at her pace - when we need to be anywhere quickly we will just jump in the car.

If it's a supermarket job, I'll get one of the trolleys that have the baby seat and the child seat and pop them both in that.

I just don't want to look unreasonable evicting DD1 from her buggy/pram when DC2 arrives - i understand she will get tired but she tends to sleep in the car and once we're anywhere with noise (like the supermarket) she's wide awake! So was thinking if were going anywhere like a shopping centre or when we go to the caravan next year I would just buy a cheaper single buggy and that way myself an DH can push one child each.

AIBU?

My dd will be 2 years and 5 months when we have the second and I'm not getting a double buggy because tbh she walks everywhere now at 23 months, and like you it will be with ter so it's not likely we will be going out for walks as such. And I'm not going to get a high hoard either for the same reason as you! I saw a woman pushing a pram with one on the other day and she looks so uncomfortable. I think my plan is to get a decent carrier so if we did need the pram for our dd I can carry the baby so maybe this would be a better option for you? then by the summer she will probably be more than happy walking most of the time and you can use the pram for dc2

I never thought of a carrier, thanks! They really do look uncomfortable don't they? I think in theory they're a fab idea but in practice they aren't practical at all. DD is toddling around now holding a hand so I'm hoping a few more months and she'll be confident on reins

Honestly I wouldn't want to be reliant on a 19 month old or in fact any under 3 walking. Even with reins, they are not especially steerable and when they get tired (which is frequently because they are only little, especially if you've been on a big day out) they walk at a literal snail's pace. Sure I guess you could jump in the car, but that's not always feasible if you're already out when she gets into tantrum mode or is falling asleep on her feet. It's so so so handy to have somewhere to contain them when they are in one of their absolute toddler moods, which, if she's only just toddling now, you haven't seen the half of yet.

I would look at doubles even if you do end up ditching it to use the single again later. Something like the Phil and Ted's is good because you can just take the second seat off and/or use it as a basket. You could look second hand because these hold their value and you'll likely be able to sell it later for what you paid for it.
