Getting a negative test after Miscarriage

Hi, I’m currently at the horrible and odd stage of ‘wishing’ for a negative test after miscarriage. I’m 3 weeks post miscarriage and still getting a positive. I had a natural MC and when scanned to confirm the midwife said there was just some blood left in the lining - so I thought my negative result would be quicker. I will phone the hospital again as they said but I can’t get through so just wondered how long it took others to get their negative result. I miscarried at 11 weeks so maybe this is normal. TIA

My first miscarriage was at 11 weeks and it took me about 6 weeks to get a negative test. My period arrived about 2 weeks after that. I think anywhere from 2-6 weeks is normal.

Mine was also about 6 weeks, at 4 weeks it will still quite strong x

Mine took about 5/6 weeks I think. X

I had a mmc in October and got my negative test (and period) 9.5 weeks later.

6 week for me .

Thanks for all the replies. Flip that’s quite a while. Did they do anything in between times / any further tests or just have you continue to test. Or wait for period? It’s so horrible seeing the positive test. X

I had similar with a 10 week miscarriage - continued bleeding and getting positive tests for 6 weeks. I found it so triggering seeing the positive tests that I got my husband to ‘read’ them. I eventually got a negative test at about the 6 week point.

So sorry for your loss.

Thank you @Puddlelane123. And you. It’s like the kick in the teeth that keeps on kicking. My bleeding had stopped about a week ago but actually today is back a little. I’ve to go back in on Thursday to get checked - although based on what all you lovely ladies are saying it is perfectly normal so not sure what they’ll do.

As I said I was 9.5 weeks, after about 6/7 weeks I ended up getting blood tests every 2 days to check for hcg levels and only went it got to 1 did I get a negative and my period.

I stopped bleeding after about 2 weeks too.

It's soul destroying and the hurt is horrible.

Im sorry to hear that @Michellebops - it’s like the unspoken of the (already) unspoken

It makes it so hard to achieve any sense of ‘closure’ (although I hate that word) when you keep getting positive tests. As you say a kick in the teeth. I was scanned at the 4 week point and they were happy that I had no retained products causing the ongoing positive tests. I think to some extent it depends how much pregnancy hormone your body produces as that varies wildly between women in both viable and non viable pregnancies. If it is any small consolation I remember my fertility consultant (i was having fertility treatment) telling me that my high levels of pregnancy hormone despite a non viable pregnancy was an encouraging sign for my body’s ability to sustain a future healthy pregnancy. Not sure if they were just kind words amidst my copious tears, but it was a nice thought at the time and I did later go on to have to successful pregnancies.

I spoke to my epu and they did do a blood test for me. It just confirmed that my hormone levels were decreasing. They said that some women just take longer for levels to go down. The time after that I miscarried (also at 11 weeks) it took around 4-5 weeks.

@Puddlelane123 oh well I guess that was something. And maybe some truth in it. Glad you went on to have successful pregnancies though. It’s definitely nice to hear happy stories. It’s good to know it can just take time and nothing abnormal. And the epu are checking me out.
