Newborn Nappy Sizes

Hi!

I'm just getting prepared with some things for hospital - hoping to be a few more weeks yet! - and have bought a pack of newborn nappies in Size 1 from Tesco. It says these are suitable for 2-5kg and we're tracking around 30-40th centile, so probably looking around the 3kg mark for birth. I've also got some Size 2 nappies that a friend passed on, and hoping to start using reusables asap really.

I just remembered hearing that nappies can be huge on slightly smaller newborns and have now started wondering if I need to get some Size 0 ones too? What do others think? Did anyone else need Size 0 and how big was your baby?

TIA - small problems, I know Grin.

3.1kg size 1 newborn was perfect fit.

I have no direct experience but I don't see the harm in buying 1 small pack of size 0s. Better to have them and not need them than be caught short, and if they are needed then your baby can just grow into the size 1s later, so those won't have gone to waste. If you don't need the size 0s, well, you can always hang onto them for a future baby, pass them on, or pop them in a food bank collection later on Smile

I bought nappies to take to hospital but then didn't need them because they were supplied on the ward. They even gave me some to take home!

Thanks @Wheresthebiffer2 Smile - that's reassuring.

Also a good point @CoalCraft! Best to be over-prepared in these strange times I guess. x

My DS was 7lb 2oz and size one were fine

Thanks @SpillTheTeaa. Sounds like a perfect size to me - DH seems to want a chunky baby but at under 5"4 and small frames, I'm perfectly happy Grin.

Might just be specific to my local hospital I guess! I was surprised myself as I expected to have to provide my own.

My son was 7lbs 8oz, for the first week and a half size 1 looked huge on him, I probably would have picked up a small pack of size 0 if I could, but it was height of lockdown and I couldn't get a supermarket slot etc... so we just made do and managed fine with size 1. He very quickly fit into them better.

@mynameisntlouise That's what I was a bit worried about! I know it will already be a while before he/she can fit into re-usables as it is. Think I'll definitely get a little pack of Size 0 just in case Smile. And congrats on your lockdown baby! What a year it's been already... x
