Maternity pay - SMP

I’m trying to calculate what I’ll earn with my maternity pay - I get 26 weeks full pay and then 13 weeks SMP. What I can’t work out is if that SMP will be 90% of my earnings or just the £148.

Anyone else had the same package and can shed any light?

The 90% is just for the first 6 weeks so you will get the £148 a week after your omp3 finishes until 9 months then zero until 12 months

Ahh ok, thank you. I was hoping it was 90% for the first six weeks of my SMP after the full pay!

Explained pretty clearly here www.gov.uk/maternity-pay-leave/pay

SMP at the basic for those 13 weeks.

It's an excellent scheme for you (I was statutory minimum throughout both of mine).

@LouisLitt1 thanks for the link, I have been looking at that but couldn’t work it out based on my 26 weeks at full pay

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz Thank you, I needed it simply put haha.

Yeah, I realise I’m very lucky! I don’t know you people cope on just SMP!

At least its gone up to £151.20 now! I imagine you will drop to the basic SMP after 6 months enhanced pay.

MinesALatte · 22/06/2020 12:28

Oooh I didn’t realise that, an extra couple of quid haha

The site Maternity Money has a useful calculator to work out your pay. You put in your current monthly pay and details of your company pay scheme and it works out how much you are likely to receive each month. Mine was slightly out as my pension contributions are taken before other deductions but it has given me a rough figure to base my savings goals on.

Thanks @watersintheclouds
I used this earlier but they were saying after the 26 weeks I’d get £863 for the first month, £786 next, then £806 then £299, £302 and I can’t work out why! I filled it in 26 weeks full pay and 13 weeks SMP

Is that because there are different amounts of days in each month?

mylittlesandwich · 22/06/2020 14:45

It's calculated weekly rather than monthly so the amount you get some months varies.

MinesALatte · 22/06/2020 14:49

@dementedpixie yes I think so, but it seems a bit more than it should be! I was working it out about £200 less!
