Intense cramps that keep coming and going! Is this labour yet?

So I have been having on and off period type cramps for well over 2 weeks now and it's been like mild back pain that's radiated to the front and to my thighs. I spoke to a midwife who said these were just Braxton Hicks and completely normal. Last night I was watching a film and laying down on my side and the pain started again. Every time this happens I feel I need to go to the toilet (sorry tmi) and when I've finished it's usually a little better for a bit. However the pain came back and when I got up to walk I felt immense pressure in my pelvis like the baby was about to fall out! Tried to go to bed and the pain only got worse and I was struggling to catch my breath. My tummy also kept tightening constantly!! After an hour I was about to call the midwife and the pain tapered off. Can't help but feel a little disheartened that this keeps happening but I am not progressing. I haven't had a show/mucus plug or anything but I've had heavy discharge for the past many many weeks. Sorry tmi again! My partner is working nights and is travelling to Glasgow tonight and I am getting super anxious it'll happen and he will be gone for hours! Haven't been able to book time off as he's only just gotten back to work after not having work due to corona!!! Is this similar to other people's labour starting???

I didn’t lose my plug until after labour was well established, not everyone does. I had Braxton hicks during the month before DD turned up. What was different with labour was that I had a really defined rhythm to them - for me, they started off every 15 minutes like clockwork and then gradually got closer together. I’m not sure it’s the same for everyone, but I think that’s pretty common - if there’s no rhythm it’s probably your body gearing up, but not ready yet.
