Missing the first scan

Hi everyone. Is it so bad to miss a scan and blood tests at 12 weeks? I'm not sure I will get to the doctor on time with this Covid (not UK). What do you think? Can it be done later? I'm not sure as I thought the reference results are all defined for 12 weeks precisely. I'd appreciate your thoughts. I was very organised with my previous pregnancy and never missed any single appointment.

I don't think it's a problem. Lots of women don't find out till they are long gone 12 weeks.

Hi OP, is it your personal choice not to go or have all appointments/scans where you are been cancelled?

The dating scan is optional in the UK but, in my opinion, pretty important and not something I would want to miss. It is normally performed between 11 and 14 weeks and most mums to be choose to get the combined screening done at the same time (screening for downs, Edwards and patau). The combined screening test has to be done before 14 weeks.

Hi @NavyBerry - I think in the UK you can go between 11-14 weeks, so I don't think it has to be bang on 12 weeks. Can you check with your healthcare provider?

Hushabusha · 21/06/2020 19:38

The dating scan is to be done between 12 &13 weeks afaik. That's important (in my opinion)

I personally wouldn't miss it because they check for viability and some abnormalities. You get important blood work done then too.

Thank you all for your answers. I'm currently in the UK and will look into doing this privately here. I just cannot go back to my country yet as the borders are still closed and looks like they will be closed in the foreseeable future hence the question. Hope it doesn't cost thousands £

Find a private clinic. At my local it was about £150 for the nuchal scan so not loads and allows you to see if you're high risk for Down syndrome etc.

NavyBerry · 21/06/2020 22:11

Oh thank you! That's manageable. I will research more

There are certain tests they do that can't be done/are less accurate after 12 weeks. You'd be mad not to go

I think for the scan and a comprehensive blood test, I've seen it for £450, it's unlikely to cost more than that.

Thank you. I will check what it is available around.
