Nappies

So I’m currently 23+4 and one suggestion that I have had from people is to from now, in my weekly/fortnightly shop add one pack of nappies and one pack of water wipes.
Is this a good idea in people’s opinion? How would I know what brand and sizes to get?

I’m not sure nappies is a good idea, you won’t know the size and maybe your baby won’t like certain brands?

Pinkblueberry · 21/06/2020 12:31

Completely unnecessary. Buy a pack or two of newborn size nappies and wipes a few weeks before your due date and then buy as you need. People who do this kind of thing must be the ones trying to flog 10 bags of nappies on FB.

Keha · 21/06/2020 12:32

I wouldn't, my baby came out at 10lb 4, we had to give away a lot of the size 1s and we only had 2 or 3 packs. Ive also known some babies who've got more nappy rash etc in certain nappies but you wont know until there here. I've always used supermarket own brand nappies, no issue.

justlikejasper · 21/06/2020 12:33

Water wipes are awful, too wet and too cold on a newborn. Pampers or Aldi own are much better

LouisLitt1 · 21/06/2020 12:35

You could look at cheeky wipes - much better for the environment

ThinkPink71 · 21/06/2020 12:40

I did this in the run up to my baby arriving....i bought loads of size ones & twos from aldi...worked for me...baby is now 4 weeks old and I havent had to worry once about nappys or wipes (hes still comfortably in the ones).

Ive found the best thing for me managing as a FTM was to be as organised as possible :) x

Prettylittlelady · 21/06/2020 13:01

Thank you for the feedback. I think it sounded like a good idea in principle and I would like to be organised but I’ll wait until much closer to the time.
Any recommendations for the best brands of nappies or is it buying different ones and trying them? FTM here if you can’t already tell! Haha

I’m not sure I would in case you or your baby doesn’t like them. We had Eco by Naty nappies but we found them a real faff to put on securely so changed to pampers. Within a day my son had the worst nappy rash (no change to his bowels/changing routine etc) and so we had to change brands again. Now using Kit & Kin - very happy with them as they are easy to put on, no leaks, no sore bottom etc

Pinkblueberry · 21/06/2020 13:16

Aldi nappies and wipes have always worked well for us. But I think with nappies it very much depends on your baby - I’d start with aldi or another own brand because if their bums are happy with good value ones that’s a convenient start. Aldi wipes, despite their low price, are simply just the best.

Youvegotafriendinme · 21/06/2020 13:23

I wouldn’t personally. What if your baby is allergic to the brand you decide to bulk buy Or you don’t like them? I don’t think it’s a bad idea to buy one large pack of new born size and half a dozen packs of wipes. We used pampers but i later found Lidl’s almost identical to them for quality and much cheaper but everyone will have different opinions on nappies and wipes

DH’s aunt bulked bought new born size when her son was born. I’ve never seen so many boxes of nappies in one space. By the time he moved to the next size up she hadn’t even made a tent in the first size! She may have been the extreme though!

Bellsx · 21/06/2020 13:29

I was given a pack of first size nappies from a friend but have also bought a couple more packs as well and the sensitive wipes all from Aldi.

PippinStar · 21/06/2020 13:33

I love Eco by Naty (and cloth nappies) - no nappy rash here and DS is 16mo. I'll be using them again on DC2.

I second the recommendation for cheeky wipes!

Mynotsoperfectlittlefamily · 21/06/2020 13:42

I third the recommendation for Cheeky Wipes. So much cheaper and so much better on the skin. Cleans alot quicker and easier with one wipe rather than 5. They smell great and are environmentally friendly as a bonus.
I use pampers but never bought loads incase one of them was allergic to the brand or too big. Neither of my two fit into size 1 from birth they were straight onto the size 2 nappies. As soon as they were big enough we moved to active fit pants as they leak so much less and sort of grow and shrink with them in the day.

Whiskeylover45 · 21/06/2020 15:25

I would maybe buy one small pack of 1 and 2. Like PP have said you won't know if they fit beforehand. With DS he had to have pampers only as it was the only brand that he didn't react badly too. However always was able to use Asda's own wipes. But then again my god daughter had supermarket brands, so you never know. Buying that many before the baby is here may be a waste of money, see what happens after baby is born. Then if u need more tou can always get them then

Cheeky wipes work far more effectively than disposable baby wipes op and you'll save a fortune!

We use little lamb reusable nappies on ds. We didn't start using them until 18 months but wish we'd started much sooner.

Good luck Smile

Shinebright72 · 21/06/2020 15:55

I would go to aldi and buy a few different sizes. Also stock up in pampers nappies in larger sizes.

DontStandSoClose · 21/06/2020 16:14

Can’t you just put some money to one side instead of stockpiling them? We are still buying nappies for our children for nighttime and they are 4 and 2. I think it’s an expense you need to budget for in the long term really to be honest. I just bought a couple of packets of newborn nappies just before the baby arrived and a box of water wipes for the first month or so, then switched to normal wipes.

One tip I’d give though is you really don’t need to be buying pampers, Aldi or Asda own do the same job and you change them often anyway. Pampers work marginally better at absorbing but unless you are leaving your baby in a wet nappy they are no better.

namechangetiger · 21/06/2020 16:18

I use cloth nappies and love them! It made me feel pretty horrific when I realised how long disposable nappies take to biodegrade

BeMorePacific · 21/06/2020 16:47

I found Aldi nappies the beat price by far and no leakage. Pampers were terrible for us, but I know people that swear by them.
Tesco nappies were brilliant as my little one got older. xx
