When to announce?

Had a private scan a few days ago at 11 weeks, my NHS scan is a week Monday.
We've told all our immediate family now.
I'm undecided, but if I wanted to announce on FB within the next week, is it safe?
Maybe I should just wait for the 12 week scan (I'll be nearer 13 weeks then)

There's honestly no set rule.

Announce it if/when/how you want to, wait if you're not sure.

It’s very personal to each person, do what you feel is best for you. I only told the people I was willing to tell if anything went wrong the first time round and found out at the 12 week scan I had a mmc. Only immediate family knew. I’m currently 17+2 now and still haven’t told many people, only immediate family and a few close friends. I’m paranoid that something will go wrong even through everything so far has been fine. I’ll probably wait until the 20 week scan to make it public knowledge this time round.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

As above, no set rules.

Personally we told family and friends at 12 weeks but didn't put anything on social media until after the 20 week scan. Just wanted to keep it close and personal just Incase.

Good luck.

Its really whatever you feel comfortable with! Personally I'm waiting for my first NHS scan on Monday to tell family and close friends, then after that will just tell people as and when it comes up. I'm def not doing a FB announcement - partially because I'm quite a private person, and partially because I knew someone who did this and then had a very late loss - I think it made it worse for her having to 'untelll' everyone she had told on FB. Obvs thats unlikely to happen, but I'm the kind of person who always prepares for the worst!

It's totally up to you. I told lots of people in person before 12 weeks because I knew I'd want to talk about it if I miscarried (which I did first time and was still happy to tell early the next two times) but I never put anything on FB at all until the birth.

I told close family as soon as I got my BFP and shared on Facebook after the 12 week scan. Most people I know share the news after either the 12w or 20w scan, or after a private scan at around 16w if they've found out the sex then so they can share that too, but it's totally up to you of course.

LittlePeepoToy · 20/06/2020 12:42

I told family and friends at 12 week and work at 16 weeks.

longtimecomin · 20/06/2020 12:47

Wait for the scan, it could reveal something so you may want to deal with that and not have to answer too many questions from well wishers.

ilikepalmtrees · 20/06/2020 12:51

It's completely up to you and your partner, there is no right or wrong answer. For me, this time around, I will be waiting until after my 20 week scan (all being well of course). I announced my previous pregnancy on Social Media after the 12 week scan. Unfortunately a major birth defect was seen at the 20 week scan and at that point my baby was given less than 50% survival. I was beyond upset and I went very quiet on SM whilst trying to wrap my head around things. As the way with SM many of my 'friends' were asking about the sex of the baby and my pregnancy in general and I found it extremely tough for the remaining 20 weeks trying to dodge such questions as I wasn't ready to talk about my baby being so poorly.
My son survived and is now fast approaching his terrible twos! Big lesson learnt for me though. Good luck and whatever you decided will be what's best for you and your baby Smile

Announce when you feel you want to. I did on sm after I had my 12 week scan.
I understand people wait and bad things have happened to them/people they know. But anything can happen at any time even after you’ve had the baby. Theirs no right time imo it’s just personal choice.
I went with the rule of 12 weeks but most of my close family and friends knew earlier on then that.
