Pram and a Fiat 500!!

Need some help!

Does anyone have a Fiat 500 pop, and if so, what pram did you get which fits in the boot?

Had my heart set on the Cosatto giggle 2, but looking at the dimensions I don't think it's going to fit.

Any help/advice would be very much appreciate TIA

Joie Chrome fits in tiny boots. We have a Suzuki Swift (which is the most ridiculous miniscule thing) and it went in there. We now have the Mutsy Evo which also fits. Also on my shortlist was Cybex Balios S, Maxi Cosi Stella, Maxi Cosi Adorra. I don't think we actually tried these out but I'd measured the dimensions and worked out they could fit in.

You need something that can lie flat while parent facing so you don't need a separate carrycot. The carrycot is the killer. We bought one anyway because we got the pram second hand, but we only used it at home and for walks. When we were using the car we just used the normal seat laid flat.

I'd look at the Cybex Eezy S Twist as well unless you need to go off road or handle cobbles.

i have a mini and have bought a doona car seat pram for the car and a bigger joolz day pram for more everyday use from the house and if needs be could put one seat down Grin but the doona is really good got it off fb marketplace for £100

I had a cossato giggle and a mini. The base of the system fitted in the boot, on its side. But I had to take the parcel shelf off and push the rear seats forward a bit. And the carrycot/seat section had to go on the back seat. So the baby had to go in the front. The whole thing was a pain in the arse.

I think the 500 and the mini are fairly comparable in size so Id say go for a different travel system!

Midnightdream · 19/06/2020 21:25

I have a fiat punto evo. I have cosatto in the wild, I can just about fit the frame and carrycot. I'm going to sell the car as it's not practical.

I dare say, I also have a silver cross kensington it fits in DP car but not mine Sad

Baby zen Yoyo. Great pram. Has car seat adaptors. Fit anywhere.

Babyshine2020 · 19/06/2020 21:30

@Clemmie83 what Clio have you got? I have an 18 plate and the Occaro which fits perfectly - room for shopping too! (I don't have the shelf though, but took it out years ago for the dog!)

OutComeTheWolves · 19/06/2020 21:58

I have a tiny car (not a fiat 500) a and couldn't find a pram that would fit. I ended up just keeping the chassis in the boot and the pram bit on a seat.

marauder1994 · 20/06/2020 15:18

Thank you everyone! Finance company want £6000 to end the finance and we definitely don't have that! Really want a travel system that can fit without taking the wheels off.. but looking like I have no chance! Thank you everyone! Xx

If you google "pram model + fiat 500" you'll be able to see videos and images of them in the boot, if they fit. There are a few blog posts which feature mums who went with a Bugaboo Bee with a Fiat, here's a picture from one of them. The benefit of the Bee is that the bassinet is small and has soft sides, and the seat can be parent and world facing. Unfortunately there aren't too many compact prams which let you have the baby facing you once they grow out of a newborn pack (if that's an option, see the Uppababy Minu, Ergobaby Metro, YoYo). You can also get car seat adaptors for most compact prams, and the ability to stick the car seat onto the frame is what makes it a travel system.

This is a pretty good post which also goes into detail about getting the car seat in and out and the knack the blogger has perfected!

Do yourself a favour and get something that you don't need to squeeeeeeze into the boot every time. It soon gets wearing. I wanted the big travel system for DD so got a Bugaboo Fox. It's a great pram but I'm only just starting to admit to myself that the Bee would have been more convienient.

No recommendations but Not an icandy.
Mine barely fit in my yaris which was probably slightly larger, and it weighs a ton.

marauder1994 · 22/06/2020 16:09

Thank you! My other worry is that our budget is £500 for a pram carry cot and car seat - and some of the pushchairs which will fit in my fiat are over that budget on their own! At a loss :(

@TheCraicDealer that blog is so helpful! Thank you for linking it! Xx

Ok, then a good option might be the Cybex Eezy S+, which is the same stroller recommended by BertieBotts earlier but without the spin option. The "+" bit means the wheels are bigger- they're currently reduced from around £135 as they're bringing out a new model. You can also get a bassinet for them (also on that website at about £95), and as you can see from the image on that link the car seat can slot right on as long as you get the adaptors for it. You should be able to get the whole lot under budget.

I have this pram for DD for holidays, sits in DH's car. It's very good quality for the price and it'll fit no problem in the boot.

treehousethunderstorm · 22/06/2020 17:23

We had an Oyster 2 (I think) which fit in the boot, and the adaptors so the maxi cosi could click straight on top. Also the pram part could lay flat. It was great.

BertieBotts · 22/06/2020 21:30

All the ones I listed fit in that sized boot without the wheels coming off, and I think all of them except for the Mutsy are under £500 (we only got it because we found it second hand). This is our boot, it's absolutely miniscule!! NB DS2 does travel in a proper car seat I promise :o

Eezy S+ is newer - I hadn't seen that :)

Worth noting - all the buggies recommended take a Maxi Cosi car seat. When we went to look at the Cybex Balios S, which was my favourite, the sales assistant explained that the Cybex and Maxi Cosi car seat adapters are identical, and in fact even though it's a Cybex buggy with a Cybex car seat, we'd have to order the Maxi Cosi adapters!

I later found out that those same adapters have been used by a lot of car seat manufacturers so actually you can put any of the following company's seats onto Maxi Cosi adapters:

Maxi Cosi
Cybex
Joie (except Juva)
Besafe
Nuna

And with an interim adapter between the maxicosi adapter and the car seat:
Recaro
Axkid

Then a couple of one offs - the company's other seats don't fit but this specific one does:
Cosatto Dock
Venicci Ultralite

And then, if your pushchair model is popular in the US (e.g. Babyzen) you can usually get Britax Click & Go adapters for it instead if you prefer - those fit the UK Britax seats.

You do have a huge choice in compatible car seats, which isn't always immediately apparent. Since you said you're on a tight budget and car seats (especially with a base if you want one) can be pricey these are the cheapest ones from that list in case you don't find a good deal with the car seat included which works out cheaper:

Without base
Joie Gemm £70
Maxi Cosi Citi £80
Joie i-Snug £90 *
Maxi Cosi Cabriofix £100
Britax Babysafe £100
Cybex Aton £100
Maxi Cosi Tinca £110 *
Cybex Aton 5 £120 *
Besafe izi Go £130 *
Venicci Ultralite £130 *
Joie i-Gemm £130 *

With base
Joie Gemm £160
Britax Babysafe £180
Maxi Cosi Cabriofix £195
Joie i-Level £200 *
Cybex Aton 5 £220 *
Britax Babysafe i-Size *
Maxi Cosi Tinca £245 *
Nuna Pipa Lite LX £250 *

The ones with stars by them I'd say are not "budget" ie bare bones car seats - they all offer something a bit extra. The Tinca/i-Snug are budget models technically, but they're absolutely brand new to market so I've included them as they have some of the features which would have been exclusive to "premium" models in years gone by.

You can easily skip the carrycot if you add the criteria of parent facing + proper lie flat seat. So many pushchair seats are moulded and just tilt to recline, which is no good, you need one with a hinge on it that goes from an L shape when sitting up to a flat line.

Carrycot won't fit in the car anyway so it will be of limited use to you, and you save about £100-150 by omitting it!

You can also look into getting the pushchair part of the travel system second hand and buying a new car seat (because you shouldn't buy car seats second hand).

marauder1994 · 19/10/2020 19:48

I'm so sorry! I was meant to come back on and say thank you but pregnancy brain must have made me forget!

Thank you for all your suggestions. We ended up with the egg !

I've got a fiat 500 and we've bought the nuna mixx pram. Didn't expect it to fit in my car at all, but all fits perfectly in the boot, just need to remove 1 wheel 😊
With the push chair seat (can be used from birth) it all folds as 1 unit and fits perfectly.
With the newborn bassinet, the base goes in the boot and the bassinet can either be collapsed flat and put in boot or just shoved on the front seat.

I think you'll actually be surprised what fits... I was!

Car seat wise weve gone for the mica 360...the button to spin it is on the isofix so always remains at the front so no awkward leaning over to reach the button. It was also a good 10cm less deep than other brands. Passenger seat does have to be as far forward as it will go though 🙈
