Less nausea in second pregnancy - I'm worrying

I'm 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant, so super early. This is my second pregnancy after a massive gap. My last pregnancy was in 2000, so twenty years ago!

Whilst I can't recall the specifics, I do remember being very sick fairly early on in my first pregnancy. I vomited daily until 22 weeks.

This time around, I have some nausea and tiredness, sore breasts, but really no other symptoms so far. I'm now worrying in case this means that this pregnancy is somehow less viable.

I appreciate I'm being irrational and hopefully major symptoms will kick in soon. If not, though, has anyone had a second (or subsequent) pregnancy with far fewer symptoms and a happy outcome?

This is my first pregnancy but I ve had nausea once and baby has been perfectly healthy so far and I m now 21 weeks, midwifes told me sometimes you just get
lucky in a pregnancy and don't get morning sickness.

Maybe it’s a different gender than your first, different hormones in your blood x

MerryDeath · 18/06/2020 11:59

i've had one of each and they are both now thriving little brutes

Thanks so much! I do wonder if I might be having a boy. I've felt much dizzier in this pregnancy (I keep standing up and having a head rush) which I never had when I was pregnant with DD (I appreciate it's probably an old wives' tale!)

I was quite poorly with my DD but not my DS so I’ve always wondered if there is something in that old tale. However a gap could mean YOU have changed - your response to pregnancy hormones or tolerance to it or anything. I wouldn’t be overly worried as it may still also yet happen.

My morning sickness didn't start until around 7 weeks but varied with each of my four pregnancies, had none at all with my twins
I think it's too early to tell yet

I was the same with second; lower HCG at the start for a while, slow to rise. 2/3 days of actually being sick as opposed to every day until 17/40. Only difference in the end was second baby was a boy :) both healthy and happy now

I had zero nausea in my 2nd pregnancy, it was SO different to the vomit-fest that was my first.

I really enjoyed that pregnancy, it really was a breeze. I had no side effects at all, and used to joke that the only symptom I had was a bump! It was a great pregnancy and ended in a fast birth, albeit 11 days overdue.

I hope you have a good pregnancy this time OP Thanks

Pregnant with second and completely different than my first pregnancy, I wouldn't worry too much

Update to add that first (horrendous) pregnancy was a girl and 2nd turned out to be a boy - maybe there is something to the old wives tales?

BabyT20 · 18/06/2020 19:40

I had horrible constant nausea with my first pregnancy right up until around 16 weeks so expected much the same this time. I'm now 19+6 and I think I've had maybe 2 very short bouts of nausea this time. The huge difference made me think that maybe this baby was a boy but had a gender scan a few weeks ago and confirmed another girl. Every pregnancy is just completely different!
