Christmas babies!

Hi Everyone,
My baby is due December 22nd and I'm just wondering what you other ladies pregnant with christmas babies are planning on doing? My parents live about an hour out of London (I'm having the baby at St Mary's Paddington) and my mother really wants us with the family on Christmas Day. I'm so worried that I'll go into Labour on Christmas Eve or Christmas day and have to do the one hour drive up the M4 into London. Should I just stay in London and sit it out (and strike christmas this year) or should I risk it and go home for the night? My sister in law said when she was in labour the last thing she wanted to do was sit in a car - therefore I should stay in London as the car journey would be uncomfortable. In a perfect world the baby will be early and I'll avoid all this stress, but knowing my luck, he/she will choose to arrive on Christmas day!

any suggestions, much appreciated!

i'm due 2nd dec too, so it'll def be out by Xmas. We're planning to go to in laws 10 miles down the road. We'll have our lunch there and how long we stay will depend on how i feel and how the baby is. We'll have a few hours just the 3 of us and then go and grab a nice dinner which someone else has made and come back to our nice little house whilst MIL and FIl wash up I think next year when baby is more fun it will just be the 3 of us

Reiterating the point about travelling in labour - Don't Do It! Especially if you get stuck in any christmas traffic.

My dd was born on the 20th Dec last year. Everyone came to us primarily to do everything for us. My mil (my mums passed away) cooked the dinner at my house christmas eve, christmas day and boxing day, bless her. I was waited on hand and foot and had a lovely family christmas with everyone cooing over the little'un. It was really nice. I would definitely stay in London if I was you and let your mum do all the running about.

When I told my friend I was preggers with ds1 in June 2003 that my due date was 25th Jan 2004, she jokingly told me nah you'll have baba on christmas day to which I replied don't be silly thats far too early! But in November 2003 the pregnancy went downhill fast when I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia. So on Dec 19th after many trips and stays in hospital I was finally admitted to be induced, so ds1 was eventually born by emergency c-sec on Christmas Day 2003! Now thats some way to spend Christmas - whilst in the throws of labour my parents arrived at the hossie with hubbys christmas dinner which he proceeded to eat in the labour ward corridor much to the amusement of assorted medical staff! DS2 was also a December baby!

DS2 was born 4th December 2005. But for some unknown reason I still wound up cooking the full christmas fare! It meant I spent a miserable Christmas day in the kitchen, cursing at my mum who WAS supposed to be helping me and being in a lot of pain after my c-sec. That and trying to organise DS1's birthday celebration as he is a Christmas Day baby. It totally ruined Christmas for me, DH and both DSs. My advice is stay at home, lock the door, relax and do nothing wether you have baba with you or not! Don't let your family pressure you into doing anything you don't want to!

I am due 1st Dec and went a booked a Christmas Lunch this week for all the family. That we we all get to see each other but without the cooking, washing up and we can go home afterwards and just enjoy our new arrival!

Due 4th Dec, and we're having the immediate family for Xmas - but we run a hotel so they can each have a room, and each will get part of the dinner to organise. I intend to sit and be looked after.

Could they not bring Christmas to you?

Hi everyone
Think I am the lone voice here (about the travelling in labour bit at least)- labour isn't fun anyway so being in a car for me didn't make it any worse. (although it was only 40 mins journey and I was so "in the zone" I was mooing like a cow and gurning terribly so didn't even notice I was in a car) But agree with others, if its likely to make you feel stressed or you would worry about it and that would ruin your xmas, stay tucked up at home and sing nice carols to your bumb.

Good luck!
xx

Tatat · 03/10/2007 12:36

Errr bumP sorry, don't go round singing carols to your bumb that would just be plain weird

RobbiesGirl · 03/10/2007 14:03

I am due on the 28th Dec this year and as it is my second child i have been led to believe it will be early even though my first was 4 days over.....i'm hoping it's either very early so i can be home in time to celebrate christmas or on time so i can still celebrate chirstmas and new years eve......how unfortunate!!! either new year or christmas is bound to be spent in hospital knowing my luck..

Mungarra · 03/10/2007 17:24

I would stay at home and tell the relatives to stay away.

With DS1, I developed pre-eclampsia the day before his due date and had to be induced. What I'm saying is that you never know what's going to happen (unless you're having a planned caesarian - and I know someone who went into labour before the date she was supposed to be having a caesarian).

I think it's selfish of your mother to expect you to travel when you're heavily pregnant. I also wouldn't have people around at your house. Having a baby is an event for the baby's parents and siblings, not all and sundry. My in-laws visited when DS2 was a few days old and it was way too soon. Baby no. 3 is due in December and I've told them not to come for at least two weeks after the birth.

I wouldn't be offended if a heavily pregnant woman wanted to stay near home and hospital rather than visit me.
