Hospital bag for premature baby

Hi all,
I have just been discharged from hospital after spending three nights in. On Saturday I had a bloody show and contractions, my cervix dilated to three cm. Thankfully labour stopped (I am only 28 weeks!) and baby is still in. As I wasn’t expecting this I hadn’t packed a hospital bag or anything. My mum bought some stuff in for me but now I want to pack my bag incase it happens again.

My question is, do I need to pack anything different for a premature baby? I will get a couple of tiny baby grows and nappies but other than that is there anything I may not have thought of? I have three other children but they have all been full term.

I had almost exactly the same happen to me, made it to 34 weeks spent 2m5 weeks in nnu. We needed tiny Nappies, asda little angels do prem ones and cheaper than pampers. Nipple cream for you if you will be expressing, the hospital pumps are strong. No clothes in incubator just Nappy, we left a couple of changes of clothes, tiny baby once he was out of incubator. We left a cuddly toy with him for on top of the incubator. For premie we got knitted squares and I kept one in my bra next to my and one with him then swapped.

For you I'd suggest a notebook, I kept a diary when he was in, lipbalm because the ward was hot and handcream.

As well as all the standard stuff such as cotton wool, maternity pads.

Good luck, hope all goes well for you.

I meant 2.5 weeks in nnu

Thank you, that’s very helpful! I will add it all to my list. I am really hoping that baby will stick inside for as long as possible and I won’t need the prem stuff but it’s better to be prepared.

Anyone else got any suggestions?

A nice soft fleece blanket for you. Lots of night wakings.

As @Dogsorlogs said, baby will just be in a nappy at the start. Most NNUs have tons of donated clothes so you don’t need any (most people have no idea they’re about to have a preemie!) but it’s nice to have your own things too. M&S and Sainsbury’s do good Tiny ranges. Size 0 or preemie nappies, I’d also second little angels nappies.

Baby really doesn’t need much but for you I’d have handcream (soooo much Hand washing when I was there and it will be extra with covid), a book because they sleep a lot if you plan on hanging around between feeds, snacks and a water bottle to keep you going.

A water bottle and healthy (ish) snacks for you.
Hand cream.
Soft tissues and wipes, again for you.
Easy to flick through magazines.
Power pack for phone.
Comfortable Clothes you can layer in.
