To think doctor was wrong?

Hello,

I'm seven weeks pregnant today and last night I got out of the bath and had horrific lower back pain and thought it might be a miscarriage - I spoke to 111 who got an out of hours doctor to call so he asked me about other symptoms - he asked if I'm urinating a lot and I said yes but I think that's due to pregnancy and he said no early pregnancy doesn't cause frequent urination so I was like okay, and he asked about bleeding so I said no I haven't had any bleeding so he ruled out a miscarriage and said he thinks I have a UTI from the back pain so has given me some antibiotics- I'm quite prone to UTIs and I don't think it is one, I think the bath just loosened up my ligaments a bit more causing pain - should I take the antibiotics just in case?

Thanks

I’ve definitely been urinating more and since the very early weeks - think this is pretty normal as your uterus is still directly behind your bladder at 7 weeks. If the back pain has gone and you have no other symptoms then I wouldn’t take the antibiotics. Especially if you are prone to UTIs and it doesn’t feel like one and the back pain has gone.

Urinating more in early pregnancy is common

Natalie654321 · 15/06/2020 19:12

I was urinating more from about 6 weeks... Even had multiple wake ups every night

LesbianMummies · 15/06/2020 19:14

Urinating more in early pregnancy is very common. Have you had a scan at all in this pregnancy to confirm it’s definitely in the uterus? Would you call the pain severe? Is it more on one side than the other? I would be contacting early pregnancy to rule out an ectopic pregnancy as the first priority.

I had a scan at 5 weeks and 5 days and baby was where it should be and had a little heartbeat, I don't know if I over reacted, I am over weight and I know that can contribute to the backache and it didn't last that long, was about half an hour and I was fine

Oh dear doc, yes I was urinating very frequently, right from VERY early on - by 7 weeks I was up several times a night! I have had the UTI back pain, but if you're used to them, I can't see how you wouldn't be aware of the other symptoms? How's the pain today? Are you able to speak to your GP for a second opinion? I'd ask if you can drop a sample into your surgery for a dip test. If you do have a UTI then it will need swift treatment.

Horrific pain which has you calling for help sounds awful. I'm glad you feel better but perhaps just ask for a UTI to be completely ruled out.

LesbianMummies · 15/06/2020 19:29

@Kelcat9494 That’s reassuring to confirm the pregnancy is intrauterine. It doesn’t sound typical of a miscarriage however any severe pain should be checked out.

Hi OP so I'm now 10 weeks but have been continuously peeing since about 5 weeks. I'm also on the larger side and often getting pains like lower back pain and period like craps which are quite strong. I've also had a suspected uti which I have taken antibiotics for (so I would say take them) but I'm still getting pains I've been checked over and I've had a scan I think all our bodies are different and we all get different symptoms xx

TenThousandSpoons0 · 16/06/2020 08:46

This is nuts, of course pregnancy causes you to pee more often! I don’t think you should be diagnosed with a UTI without a sample, from what you’ve described. agree with PP, talk to GP or midwife and arrange to do a urine sample. It sounds like everything is absolutely fine given that pain has settled - you’re probably right re muscle strain

Lola871 · 16/06/2020 09:44

UTIs can feel different in pregnancy, with less symptoms but when I had one they wouldn't prescribe me antibiotics without the lab testing my sample as they don't like to give them out in pregnancy unless they have to! If contract your GP today and possibly arrange to take a sample in just in case!
Hopefully the back pain was nothing serious, it's probably a good sign that it stopped after half hour though as well.

Prettylittlelady · 16/06/2020 21:36

You should have a sample done and have it tested.
Although I have to say, I’ve had two UTIs so far in this pregnancy and they haven’t felt like ‘normal’ ones. The first one (6 weeks) symptom was that I kept needed to wee and barely any would come out, second one (13 weeks) was stomach pains/tightness went into a&e worried about the worst and said you have a UTI, antibiotics fixed it up but you shouldn’t be diagnosed without a sample.
