Double Buggy for Newborn and Large Toddler

Hi, looking for recommendations for double strollers. My second is due in August and my first little boy will be two in August so exactly two years apart. I have a Cosatto travel system from my first which I will use again for my second baby and let my toddler walk when he can but for longer walks, I'm and out of shops etc I am looking for a double buggy. I have a buggy board but he's not great on it yet. My almost two year old is a big boy, he's tall so I need something that can accommodate his size and is comfortable but still secure for a little one. I would like a side by side one but I've just become completely overwhelmed with the choices. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. I also don't have a big budget so anything under £400 is okay. Thanks in advance! 😄

I have purchased the britax b-agile double pushchair and seperate carrycot. My lo is due in september and my ds will be 2.5 by then. He walks great so far but isnt good with long distances and dont want him walking around all through the winter getting cold and soaked! The double itself is easily to fold and fairly light, looking forward to using it for the first time. Will also be trialling a buggy board too as I plan on using ds single pram also.

Following as have a similar situation.
Baby due in January, and LO will be 2 Yr 4 months, so looking to get a double.
Also prefer the side by side ones.
Had my eyes on a bugaboo, but heard its bulky and wide!

Also following, due in Feb and will have a near 20 month old.

I’ve been considering the Cosatto WOW XL, but interested to see other options.

CoolNoMore · 15/06/2020 05:34

Following. I've almost given up looking and am thinking of just carrying DS2 in the sling for six months. DS1 likes the idea of the skateboard, but as a novelty. It's not much use if he's exhausted.

Out n About Nipper V4 Double.
Absolutely amazing pram with an extremely high weight limit. It's also comfortable for really tall children, my DS was 110cm when first put in it and was comfy till 125cm. Can get a carrycot bit for a newborn too.
It looks really small when you first put it together but honestly, it's perfect! It's also compact, not like the other bus type prams.

If you've got the budget, a bugaboo donkey is also incredible but extremely expensive. I had both and I think if I was in the same situation again I'd go for the nipper and save the £1000!

Honestly, I can't recommend it enough! It's fabulous

Whereland · 15/06/2020 06:10

Out and about, all the way.

MsChatterbox · 15/06/2020 06:18

Another out N About double Nipper vote. My son is extremely tall though (off the charts) and 2.5, the only thing I find is that his head touches the sunshade so there may be a point where I can't have the sunshade open on his side. But honestly it's an amazing puschair. So good that when I got it I started using it before my second was even born!

Also recommend the site linked by above poster. Mine came really quick from there!

We got a Hauck Duett 2. I was a bit apprehensive as I also wanted a side by side one and I was worried it would be cramped but it’s not at all. DS is almost 2 but almost as tall (and heavier) than our 5 year old DD so he needs a lot of room, and he loves sitting in the lower seat. It’s cosy but he can still see around and you can lift up the bottom end of the carry cot so it makes it snugger for newborn but also makes more head room for the older one.
We live rurally and have used it on pavements but also through woods and fields and I can push it easily with both in. It’s also a lot cheaper than some doubles which I liked because newborn DD is our last child and we won’t be using it as a double for long, I didn’t want to spend a fortune on something that we wouldn’t use again.

Another vote for the out n about nipper, my nearly 4 year old still has lots of room on the occasions she uses it.

Saz444 · 15/06/2020 07:45

Okay thanks so much everyone! Can anyone tell me what the out n about is like for two things. First is adjusting the seat? I bought a Mama's and papas buggy and it has a string clip seat adjuster which I found impossible to move with my little boy in it but it might have been that particular brand. Also my son has bright ginger hair and the palest skin in the world so I worry about sun protection. Is the hood good and big?

OP posts:
MsChatterbox · 15/06/2020 08:58

It has the string type adjustment. I find I'm able to do this even with my son leaning against it. The hood is good but doesn't given complete coverage - I have snoozeshade for extra sunny days. The normal snoozeshade deluxe actually fits over it (I originally bought this for my single buggy).

NightDreaming · 15/06/2020 09:08

As others have said the Out n About, or city mini jogger double, they are good too.

Depending on your budget definitely worth looking out for second hand on FB selling pages, eBay or gumtree.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 15/06/2020 09:17

I have had an out and about when my two boys very close in age were little, I did love it but I didn't think the seats were very big, my boys are big and when I had the nipper they were 6 months and 18months. The hood doesn't give good coverage. And although it's so so easy to push if you get a puncture it's a nightmare so definitely put slime in the tyres.
I always recommend the Uppababy Vista with a rumble seat. And another bit more hard to find one is the Graco Trekko Duo. Its a tandem but so sturdy and the bottom seat is really the roomiest I had, I used this one the longest, and if you're lucky you can pick them up second hand for so cheap.

Ducky1900 · 15/06/2020 14:58

Been following this thread! Thank you for your reviews. Just been checking out the out and about double. Looks good and I may have changed my mind to this than the bugaboo.
Does anyone know if it'll fit in a Ford fiesta 18 plate?

Saz444 · 15/06/2020 21:35

Thanks so much everyone for your help. One more question, is the back nice and straight when fully upright? My little boy likes to look around him everywhere and I've had a buggy before that is still quite inclined even at it's most upright.

I’d suggest anybod the following

City jogger min double
Out and about nipper
Britax b agile double
Mountain buggy duet
Thule glider double.

MsChatterbox · 16/06/2020 02:14

Yes nice and straight!

Ducky I'm not sure about the boot. But I agree it's better than the bugaboo... Fits through a small door way for example!
