Has anyone else had a pregnancy of unknown location.
I got a positive test wed started spotting n cramping Thurs morn so went to A&e they did blood hcg level was 138 and I was referred to epu, they scanned me Friday and diagnosed pregnancy of unknown location..... And I went back today and had repeat bloods hcg is now 468 is this a good sign anyone else had this. I'm going out my mind and got to wait till Friday for a further scan

I initially Had one but hcg levels were much higher - 3500 - once the levels rose higher it was found to be ectopic

Your numbers have doubled though in 48 hours so I don't actually think this is a pregnancy of unknown location?? Did they not explain that today to you with your latest blood results?

If you only got a positive test on Thursday then hcg of 138 on Friday is pretty normal unless you thought you were 6-8 weeks pregnant or something? Can't believe they didn't explain that to you? presumably you are only just over 4 weeks pregnant by now?

You realise spotting and cramping is normal in early pregnancy? I'm surprised they even scanned you/took bloods at this point as there is nothing they'd be able to see other than a slightly thickened lining and has set you up for several days of stress

Sorry didn't mean my reply to sound abrupt i just get so cross with hospitals/doctors who needlessly cause stress at a time like this

I have pcos do going on date of lmp I would be 8 weeks, which is why they scanned. But where my cycle is so irregular they don't know exactly when I concived. But yes I've been exstremly stressed n panicky

I had this last year. 2 weeks after a positive test had some bleeding so went for hcg tests and scan. Scan said pregnancy of unknown location. Hcg had increased. The day I had second hcg results my husband had to call an ambulance because I was in so much pain. Turned out to be ectopic (another scan confirmed) and had to have surgery to have right tube removed as it had ruptured. I was 6 weeks pregnant at that point. Don't want to scare you but thought I'd share my experience. 3 months post surgery I was pregnant again. Now 36 weeks along with a baby girl x

Congratulations on your pregnancy..... Thankyou for your honesty, I have ibs too so hopefully my cramping was linked to that, spotting has stopped now, I'm just praying for the best as hubby n I have been trying for 5 years

From a reassurance perspective I think you’ve ovulated late with your PCOS so it’s just too early to see anything. I think they say your HcG should be around 1500-2000 before they can see anything and you’ve had a really promising increase in your levels over 2 days.

If you’d have got a positive test a couple of weeks before, then I would have said prepare for bad news. In my case I had a positive test then a couple weeks later they couldn’t see anything on a scan, my levels were 213 ish. 2 days later they were 180 and they suspected it was ectopic.

Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼

I had this and have had three scans since then (internal as only 6 weeks). They couldn’t find anything on the first, found two sacs on the second and three sacs on the third with only one progressing which is apparently normal. It was simply too early too see anything on the first scan. I have been spotting the whole time and have cramps too.

LisaxMarie · 14/06/2020 20:33

Fingers crossed for you lovely. I had pains leading up to it that I didn't know weren't normal but they we really quite painful so I'm hoping it's positive news for you. As has been mentioned it may just be that your ovulation was out and its just too early. Your hcg figures do sound promising. Everything crossed for you x

Hi OP

So sorry you’re going through all this!

This is the endocrine report I got when I had private HCGs done. 8 weeks your numbers are a bit low but even if you’re just 2 weeks out - which is a huge possibility with PCOS you’re still in range!

I had a similar experience last year where I had some bleeding at 5 weeks they did my HCGs and they didn’t double so I got the “unknown location/viability” diagnosis but unlike you’re my HCGs didn’t double and I was diagnosed with a blighted ovum and had surgical management for miscarriage.

Obviously this isn’t 100% but the general rule seeks to be that if your HCGs double your pregnancy is, for now at least, viable!

I hope this helps and I hope you get some answers!

Just to add that you do have the option of a private scan? I can highly recommend ultrasound direct! Even if your HCGs are behind in terms of
levels If your dates put you at 8 weeks you can get a reassurance scan! We had one at 7 weeks and there was a baby and a heartbeat visible xx

Yea I agree with the ovulation being out. They are doing an ultrasound Friday so really hoping for more answers by then!! I just hate the not knowing. But my hcg for now has ruled out miss carriage for the time being so just got to pray for the best

Sounds like everything may well be fine - be hopeful! The diagnosis of pregnancy of unknown location is made basically whenever nothing conclusive can be seen on scan. Very often a PUL turns out to be a normal viable pregnancy, just takes time to become clear, and it’s an anxious wait. It could still be an ectopic (ectopic levels can double too) but I’d be pretty hopeful if I were you.
Be prepared there may still not be a definite answer on your scan on Friday - I think it sounds like you’re probably only around 4-5 weeks pregnant. hopefully they’ll see a rise in Hcg level and a gestation sac at least, but don’t panic if there’s no heartbeat seen still, may still be too early. X

Thankyou. I'm praying will all be OK as hubby and I have been trying for 5 years..... I've been. Having normal symptoms like sickness which is a good sign
