No movement this morning

Hi, I woke up in the night for the loo and as I was walking back to the bedroom my partner made me jump as I didn't realise he had got up, due to it being half asleep and dark I was quite terrified but went straight back to sleep. I woke up at 5am as usual and didn't feel any movement which is her usual pattern. Then finally woke up at 7.30 for the last time and have just spent 45 minutes trying to concentrate on her and I have felt one slight movement which again is not normal for her.

Should I ring the midwives now or try and see if she moves before the afternoon? I'm worried me being a bit shocked could have hurt her? (Sorry if that sounds daft, I'm a FTM and have anxiety). I'm 33+3 weeks

Always call just to be safe. They'd much rather check you out!

Birdy1991 · 14/06/2020 08:34

@Mangomumma that is what I'm leaning towards. Always have this feeling I'm bothering someone which is ridiculous!

If in doubt please get checked. They would rather you called.

TiggeryBear · 14/06/2020 08:34

Please ring & ask to be seen. I know it's scary but they won't mind.

welldonesquirrel · 14/06/2020 08:36

please go.get checked out, it might be nothing but don't take that chance. any change in movement should see looked at, I'm sure ur assessment unit will only be to happy to help that is what they are for

BeMorePacific · 14/06/2020 08:44

The advice I always got was, Have a really cold drink, maybe some chocolate then lay on your left side in a quiet room.
If you don’t feel any movement after 30-60mins you should call them xx

Pumpertrumper · 14/06/2020 08:45

Ring ring ring!!!
DS is now 3 months but I went in with concerns over movements at least 5 times (complicated pregnancy), every time the midwives said the same thing ‘we’d much rather you came in for us to tell you it’s fine, than not come in and the worst happen’.

Never feel bad about worrying for your unborn child

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 14/06/2020 08:49

Always ring up and get get checked out.
I was checked twice with DS and all was fine, but it’s just not worth the risk.
And you won’t be bothering anyone, it’s literally their job to look after you when you need it! X

Birdy1991 · 14/06/2020 08:54

Typically after writing this I had a sweet cup of tea and felt about ten movements in 5 minutes, limbs/head poking out and all sorts. Phew! Thanks guys if it happens again I definitely won't hesitate to call.

Excellent news :)

EverythingBlue2020 · 14/06/2020 09:02

I had a panic too this morning, I'm 34 weeks and my baby doesn't seem to have much of a pattern so I'm always a bit stressed about it! Glad everything is ok, mine 'woke up' about half hour ago Smile

Birdy1991 · 14/06/2020 09:05

@EverythingBlue2020 you’re around the same time as me then, I thought by this stage I wouldn’t be having this problem! However I have an anterior placenta and I’m not sure if that still makes some difference. Glad your little one is ok too maybe they’re just having a slow Sunday 🤣

EverythingBlue2020 · 14/06/2020 09:14

@Birdy1991 I went in for reduced movements last week and midwife said anterior placenta isn't a factor at this point as baby is much bigger and stronger (I also have an anterior placenta)

My baby barely moves at all overnight, I more or less wake up everyday in a complete panic. It seems he isn't much of a morning baby haha.
I'm trying to relax a bit though as I had a doppler scan and a growth scan and baby is doing/growing perfectly.

Birdy1991 · 14/06/2020 09:17

Ah I guess that's part of their pattern then? Does he move more in the evenings? Mine is less of an evening wriggler.
I had a scan at 32 weeks and that should have perhaps made me relax a bit, I do worry most days about her in there!

sel2223 · 14/06/2020 09:22

Ah baby Birdy must have been having a lie in!
Pleased she's OK and making up for it now....what a worry!

Never feel you're being a bother, if in doubt, get checked out.

Birdy1991 · 14/06/2020 09:23

Thanks @sel2223 can’t say I blame her!

EverythingBlue2020 · 14/06/2020 09:27

@Birdy1991 It must be a part of his pattern but some nights when I wake up for a pee he'll start moving about and other nights absolutely nothing at any point when I wake up in the night. And also some mornings when lying in bed he'll be having a dance and other mornings it'll be total stillness. The constant change really unsettles me and gives me anxiety but I'm trying to relax because he's always been ok no matter how much I worry!

Mine is pretty constant throughout the day and evening. So it's even more stark when he's SO still during the night.

I had my first and only baby 20 years ago and don't remember being so worried then haha, but then again we didn't have the internet to freak ourselves out with!

Number3or4 · 14/06/2020 09:41

My last baby had reduce movements at 32 weeks and it turned out he had moved to breach (I still don’t know why I felt him less, maybe he had a lazy day after a big movement like that). He did the same thing at 35weeks and it turned out my waters had grown substantially.

Number3or4 · 14/06/2020 09:48

But if are worried get checked out.

AliasGrape · 14/06/2020 09:56

It’s such a worry. I’m 33+3 too and this baby doesn’t have much of an established pattern, apart from I will definitely feel something at least in bed at night (can be a lot or a little though) and usually when I wake up and am just lying there in the morning. There will be other movements throughout the day but hard to predict them. Last week baby seemed to have a really busy few days where I was getting more and more regular movement and I thought hopefully that’s the new normal as it’s more reassuring. Then Friday there was barely anything. I tried sweet tea, biscuits, cold drink, loud noises, various positions but nothing seemed to get them going. I ended up phoning triage and going in for monitoring about 5.30 in the evening. Literally the second the monitors were on the baby started jumping about and basically making me look like a liar Grin

Like Number3or4 said - when midwife felt my stomach she thought she could feel head back at the top (the baby was head down at 30 week scan) so I wonder if they’ve turned themselves round again which was when I was feeling lots and then were worn out on Friday and having a lazy day!

Really glad baby Birdy is moving about happily now, do definitely call if you’re worried again though. They really do want you to.
