Pregnancy Vitamins?

Hi all!
I have just found out I'm pregnant! :) About 4 weeks, completely surprised!
What kind of vitamins should I be taking?
I already have some folic acid, but what should I be taking alongside this or instead of?
Please help!
Thank you :)

Congratulations! I think folic acid is the main thing, but I went out and bought one of those Pregnacare packs that has a mix of vitamins just to be sure I was getting everything!

As long as you have a decent diet folic acid and vitamin D is all that’s actually recommended. I avoided the pregnancy vitamins as they’re expensive and the iron can make you uncomfortable. Took them towards the end of one pregnancy e we hen trays did show I needed extra iron.

When tests

I've started taking pregnacare max but they make my nausea worse 🤢 so might go back to folic acid and add some vit d once I've finished this pack

Boots do a good combined pregnancy folic and vitamin D, very small and easy to swallow.

Pinkblueberry · 14/06/2020 08:45

I took Folic acid with vit D - I think it was a Superdrug one. Like a PP said pregnacare was no good for my nausea for the first 10 weeks or so. I took it again after that.

I took Pregnacare Max but I'd take it in the middle of my biggest meal as I'd heard it can upset one's stomach but I wanted the most comprehensive vitamin. I took their breastfeeding one too, followed by their new mum one. Dd has had their baby liquid since she started weaning. I've been happy with all of them. None of us have had the kind of brittle teeth/hair, colds, etc that friends of mine experienced. We do have very healthy diets too.

Folic acid snd vitamind D is all you need😊

Alpacapicnic1 · 14/06/2020 09:25

Congratulations on your BFP OP!!
I'm taking pregnacare max and have not had any problems with it. I've had loads of food aversions (to veg and fish/meat) so my diet is not great atm, so wanted something more comprehensive than just folic/bit d. Hopefully can switch to something else when I can eat normally again 😂

sel2223 · 14/06/2020 09:37

As others have said, the main ones are folic acid and vitamin D.
I've also taken pregnacare multivitamins since about 6 weeks with no issues (still taking them now at over 31 weeks). I started taking them as my sickness was so bad I was worried baby wasn't getting any of the nutrients she needed then I just kept it up after that.
I take mine at night and have had no issues with sickness/nausea aside from what I had in the first trimester anyway.

Same as some others, I'm taking Pregnacare max. It was really reassuring during the first trimester when I couldn't face a lot of food and my diet turned very beige, at least I knew I was getting all my vitamins. I take them after my evening meal which seems to suit me best.

mobear · 14/06/2020 12:31

I’ve been taking Pregnacare Max as well.

Folic cause / follacine and vitamin D is "essential", but there are strong research recommending iodine, choline, zinc, etc. I got Viridian pregnancy complex from amazon.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to pick up some vitamin D ASAP & consider pregnacare, I'll have a little look now :)
