Am I getting too worked up about Growth Scan?

I’ve a growth scan tomorrow. I’m currently 31+2. My last midwife appointment measured me 2 weeks ahead and wanted to check for Polyhydramnios hence the scan, despite all my previous measurements being spot on. Of course I googled Polyhydramnios and it came up with all sorts 🙈. I’m now worrying that things were missed on my 20 week anomaly scan and there could be a problem with my baby. In my notes it says everything looked normal in vital organs etc and I know I should put my trust in the professionals but wondering if I’m just getting myself stressed out for nothing? Baby’s heartbeat is fine and he moves very often. Just need a bit of reassurance I guess!

I've had growth scans both times round and everything was fine. I can't promise you that's true for you, but if you know that even growth scans can be out by 25% you'll understand that the measurements a midwife takes are so far from accurate.

Treat it as a good opportunity to check on your baby and make sure everything's ok.

Not unreasonable to be nervous but honestly, if you’ve been referred based on a fundal height measurement there is no reason to think there’s likely to be a problem.

Obviously no one can say for sure till you have the scan if everything is ok, and you need to check it out, but needing growth scans is so common for various reasons, I know loads of people who’ve had them (myself included in both pregnancies) and it’s turned out there was no problem, just that fundal height measurements are crap!

Just to reassure you my baby went from 90th, to 50th, to 80th. Everything fine at growth scan! My son followed the line perfectly so it was really random. Good luck for your scan!

Thanks for your reassurance. I know probably things will be fine and it’s a good opportunity to see baby again. I’ve heard that midwife measurements can be notoriously inaccurate. I don’t feel like I’ve excessively grown when she asked me and then 4 days before I saw her I popped into check baby’s movements and another midwife measured me then and measured me spot on my dates 🙈

I had polyhydramnios in my last pregnancy, and baby was 10lb 6oz. Had no issues, was referred for another diabetes test which came back fine. I was induced at 5 days over to be on the safe side.

I really wouldn't worry. I measured 2 weeks ahead at one point.
Went for a growth scan, they said baby was 90th centile. He was 8lb12oz so on the larger side (he was 8 days late though) and perfectly healthy. He's a taller than average 3yo now.

I know so, so many people who were referred for growth scans and all was fine. Totally normal to worry though.

I was actually referred because the midwife thought baby seemed small, then the growth scan showed she was quite big, so then I had to have a gestational diabetes test which came back clear. And at the end of all that she was born a very average 7lbs 10oz.

Try to flip it around and just think of it as an extra opportunity to see your little one.
It's normally such a long time between 20 weeks and giving birth without a scan....I ended up paying privately for a growth scan at 31 weeks!
If there is a problem, then it's good that they'll pick it up now.....but it's far far more likely that everything is absolutely fine.
