HELP! after some advice. Been TTC for 5 years now and had zero luck! Until now... ive had 6 VERY faint positive tests. Last one was Thursday so decided to wait couple days to see if we could get a stronger line. Tested this morning and its a complete negative. I have a few symptoms but now feel totally deflated. Sad

All you can do is test first thing tomorrow morning again or get a clear blue pregnancy test which will give you an accurate result. Wish you all the best in ttc. I also have pcos x

Thankyou so much for your reply. Really is an awful time. Ive tried several brands clearblue early being one of those and got an extremely faint positive. Bought FRER and had 2 faints and this mornings blank negative. Makes it harder after trying for so long.

Good luck to you, @Amish1991. I second @Spinakker's advice - you need your FMU. As I understand it though, false negatives are much more likely than false positives, and PCOS makes it harder to know how long since you've ovulated.

If you don't mind me asking - why have you not sought medical help? It's recommended after 1 year of trying, and after 6 months if you have a diagnosis of PCOS! I only mention it because as a fellow sufferer, everything was SO much easier - especially mentally - when I knew help was in the pipeline. Even if you don't end up needing it!

x

Hii, no course dont mind you asking. We got referred to the fertility clinic in our area 2 years ago but as my Husband has a son from a previous relationship we were declined IVF, been told its like the postcode lottery these days. Got sent away to loose some weight which unfortunately I struggle to loose. Ive tested loads in the past and never had any sign of a positive until now. I called my GP and they told me they arent offering blood pregnancy tests. Are you guys TTC also?

I second the above - as a pcos sufferer I am now pregnant, but only after having fertility meds. If you can, or haven’t already, I would seek help. Good luck!

Carabu1 · 13/06/2020 13:43

@Amish1991 - ah must have cross posted - sorry! That’s awful re: ivf. Seems so unfair. Don’t have anything helpful to add really, except all you can do is wait and test again - the clear blue ones are pretty accurate, but I know how hard it is to know when to test when your periods are all over the place. Wishing you all the best.

There is quite a lot of information for women trying to conceive with PCOS over on the Infertility board, check it out.

IVF isn't the only option, things like Clomid can help and people are prescribed that for 2nd/3rd children. I would follow up with your GP. Also have you tried using Infolic? It was recommended to me by my infertility consultant, it's a supplement so easily pur usable online. It really helped to regulate my periods and I did fall pregnant naturally within 5 months of taking it, I had previously been trying to conceive for a year. It can also help prevent miscarriage in PCOS pregnancies.

Amish1991 · 13/06/2020 13:47

Thankyou for all your responses, think that's whats making it more difficult as no idea when last AF was or anything. I'll wait a few agonising days and retest, put of options really. Appreciate all your answers x

I wonder why you were told you needed IVF - none of my business, don't feel you need to answer, but I have heard many PCOS women get lumped with this when it's not necessary.

Have you tried Clomid? I don't know how it works if you aren't eligible for NHS fertility treatment but there are ways to get it privately - there is quite a lot about this on the Infertility chat Smile.

We went through all the tests this time last year and after all the results in October, were also referred for IVF - there were issues besides the PCOS though. I asked for some Clomid in the meantime and was prescribed it. Got pregnant second month! I did also make some diet changes and take Inofolic.

Feel free to ask anything! I just think it would be good to persist with help, even if you've done that in the past. 5 years is draining! x

pinktruffle thankyou! Im going to have a look into that now, never heard of it

Haha @Pinktruffle - we definitely cross-posted there!

Takes me so long to type these things. Grin.

Amish1991 · 13/06/2020 13:51

i went to my GP and requested clomid or metformin and was informed could be an option. Week later received a letter saying they think its not suitable for me given my hormone levels. Unsure what this means but this was almost 2 years ago.

Definitely worth another try then I'd say - though fingers crossed you don't need it! Smile.

Let us know how you get on. x

Carabu1 · 13/06/2020 14:37

I also got pregnant on metformin and clomid. Had been told I'd def need IVF, but I pushed to at least try it first...glad I did now! My advice is do your own research and push for what YOU want to try - Drs are so bad for not really listening/assuming IVF will be the only answer, in my experience.

Pinktruffle · 13/06/2020 14:37

@Chichz great minds haha!

@Amish1991 I would definitely go back and challenge your doctors reasoning on that and be firm if you know what you want. Clomid wasn't the best fit for me was given an alternative - Letrozole- instead. Sometimes you have to be a bit pushy to get what you want and I don't think all medical professionals take infertility and the toll it takes in you seriously enough.

Having a baby with PCOS is very very possible, I know people who have conceived naturally with it with no assistance all the way through to people like myself who have needed IVF to have a successful pregnancy (my natural pregnancy sadly ended in miscarriage). I'm only 16 weeks but this is the furthest I've gotten. Keep fighting for yourself. If you can afford it and your GP continues to be difficult, maybe look in to a private prescription for Clomid or the alternative? I know people on the infertility board have done that.

Chichz · 13/06/2020 15:46

Definitely agree with what has been said above!

@Carabu1 I thought I recognised your name - maybe from the Clomid thread? When are you due? x

Dyra · 13/06/2020 15:56

Fellow PCOS sufferer. Definitely go back and ask why Metformin is no good for you. I fell pregnant naturally with it, but unfortunately it wasn't to be. It was then vital for me to help lose the weight that then allowed me to be prescribed Clomid. I was extremely fortunate in that just one dose of Clomid got me my now 9 month old daughter.

Also, how were your thyroid function tests? Mine were in normal ranges, but the fertility clinic wanted a TSH level lower than mine was. So I was also prescribed a bit of Thyroxine to lower it further. Which also helped with the weight loss.
