I have self referred to the Midwife. I am 4 weeks+4.
The midwife has contacted me today saying she will contact me tomorrow for my booking appointment.

Isn't 4 weeks 5 days a bit early for the actual appointment?

Also, what happens at the booking appointment?

Lucky! I got my gp to refer me at about 4 weeks (I'm 8weeks today) and heard nothing from anyone! Will be chasing up tomorrow or Monday! Wishing you a happy healthy pregnancy x

The booking appointment essentially is just a lot of questions about yours and baby's father's medical history. This is when the midwife starts filling in your notes. You also have a blood test, however this can be done separately and at a later date. For example, I had my appointment in the afternoon at my GP surgery so the blood samples had already been collected for that day. The midwife gave me a form and I had to go to the hospital phlebotomy department and have my sample taken on another day. 4+5 does sound quite early, but the NHS website only says it should be before 10 weeks, so I suppose its ok. And as I said, you may well have your blood sample taken at a later date, so if its just filling in medical history I suppose that can be done at any point. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

That's super early but I don't suppose it really makes a difference.....it's just a list of questions thry go through regarding medical history, previous pregnancies etc

I self referred around 5/6 weeks, heard nothing till 8 weeks then the appointment itself was between 9/10 weeks.

Embrace the earliness. My GP says a midwife will call in week 9, and it just feels so far away. Would love for things to get moving sooner. You're very lucky.

It is early, but it’s just form filling so I guess if they’ve got time now, they’ll do it now. They take medical history and height/weight/blood pressure (unless it’s a phone appointment) so they’ve got a baseline to compare to in the rest of your pregnancy.
